ONLINE VS.

FACE-TO -FACE
COMMUNICATION
In today’s world we find ourselves communicating more and more through online

channels such as messaging, social media and video calls, often at the expense of face-

to-face dialogue. There are certain situations where online communication is

unavoidable but others where we opt for virtual over real-life conversations .Which

beg the question: is online communication is preferable in today’s world? I earnestly

believe that no technological progress can replace face-to-face communication.

To begin with I’d like to outline the advantages of online and face-to-face

communication. Talking about online communication, one of the main arguments in

favour is that it opens the possibility of communicating with people in different places

around the globe. Another point is that written online communication gives us the

option of responding immediately ,as well as allowing us to edit our responses .The

rules that govern face-to-face communication are in favour of expressing

emotion ,with face to face , one can express emotion through facial expression and

tone of voice . Another advantage is that face-to-face is cheaper than online

communication.

On the other hand, there are several significant drawbacks of online and face-to-face

communication. In fact with face-to-face communication expressing emotion face-to-

face has a substantially larger meaning than attempting to express emotion through

text or chat, however with text or chat one only can express through emoticons and

candidly telling the other person how they feel, it can also run the risk of losing the art
of a real conversation , another disadvantage is that the use of online communication

is more expensive than face-to-face communication because of the use of electronical

devices .

On balance, I want to conclude that the practice of face-to-face interaction is

indispensable, and its value is particularly clearly visible in today’s rapidly developing

world. This is what preserves the soul of a person, does not allow him to become just a

page on LinkedIn, and prevents the loss of their real tone of voice and his real feelings.
