opportunity.
B. Performance Standards The learner leads fitness events with proficiency and confidence resulting in independent pursuit and in influencing others positively.

IV. PROCEDURES

a. Begin the lesson by reviewing the previous lesson's content, which focused on analyzing physiological indicators such as heart rate, rate of perceived exertion, and pacing
a. Reviewing previous lesson or
associated with moderate-to-vigorous physical activities (MVPAs) to monitor and adjust participation or effort.
presenting the new lesson
b. Ask the students to recall the key concepts and skills they learned in the previous lesson, and encourage them to ask questions if there are any clarifications needed.

a. State the objective of the lesson: "By the end of this lesson, you should be able to observe personal safety protocols to avoid dehydration, overexertion, hypo-, and
b. Establishing the purpose of the hyperthermia during MVPA participation."
lesson b. Explain to the students that personal safety protocols are essential in ensuring that they stay safe and healthy while engaging in MVPAs, particularly in extreme weather
conditions.
c. Presenting examples/instances of a. Show examples of how athletes and sports enthusiasts observe personal safety protocols during physical activities. Explain to the students how dehydration, overexertion,
the new lesson hypo-, and hyperthermia can negatively impact their health and performance.
Examples of how athletes and sports enthusiasts observe personal safety protocols during physical activities include:
✔ Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear: Athletes and sports enthusiasts wear clothing and footwear that are appropriate for their activity to minimize the
risk of injury and provide proper support.
✔ Warming up and cooling down: They take the time to warm up before their activity to prepare their muscles and joints for the physical demands of their activity.
They also cool down after their activity to gradually lower their heart rate and prevent injury.
✔ Staying hydrated: Athletes and sports enthusiasts drink plenty of fluids before, during, and after their activity to prevent dehydration, which can negatively
impact their health and performance.
✔ Monitoring their heart rate and perceived exertion: They monitor their heart rate and perceived exertion to ensure that they are exercising at an appropriate
intensity level and avoid overexertion, which can lead to fatigue and injury.
✔ Taking breaks and pacing themselves: They take breaks and pace themselves during their activity to avoid overexertion and fatigue.
b. Provide real-life scenarios wherein personal safety protocols could have prevented an athlete or a sports enthusiast from experiencing a medical emergency.

Here are some real-life scenarios where personal safety protocols could have prevented an athlete or sports enthusiast from experiencing a medical emergency:
✔ A football player fails to hydrate properly during a summer practice game, leading to dehydration and heat exhaustion. This could have been prevented by
drinking fluids before, during, and after the game and taking breaks when necessary.
✔ A runner fails to warm up properly before a race and suffers a muscle strain during the race. This could have been prevented by stretching and warming up
before the race to prepare the muscles for the physical demands of the race.
✔ A cyclist fails to wear a helmet while riding and suffers a head injury in a crash. This could have been prevented by wearing a helmet, which can protect the head
from impact during a fall or collision.
✔ A basketball player fails to wear proper footwear and suffers an ankle sprain during a game. This could have been prevented by wearing shoes that provide
proper support for the ankles and the feet.
✔ A swimmer fails to take breaks and pace themselves during a long swim and suffers from hypothermia due to prolonged exposure to cold water. This could have
been prevented by taking breaks and pacing themselves during the swim, as well as wearing appropriate gear for cold water swimming.
a. Introduce the different personal safety protocols that they need to follow when engaging in MVPAs, including wearing proper clothing and footwear, staying hydrated,
knowing their limits, and listening to their body signals.
b. Discuss the effects of dehydration, overexertion, hypo-, and hyperthermia and the symptoms that go with each of them. Explain to the students how they can avoid these
conditions.
d. Discussing new concepts and
c. Show a video that demonstrates the proper way to perform each personal safety protocol. Ask the students to take note of the key points and ask questions if there are any

clarifications needed.

a. Divide the class into groups and assign a personal safety protocol to each group.
e. Discussing new concepts and b. Ask the students to come up with creative ways to demonstrate how to perform their assigned personal safety protocol properly.
practicing new skills #2 c. Give them 20-30 minutes to prepare their demonstration and provide them with the necessary materials.
d. After their allotted time, have each group present their demonstration and encourage them to explain each step.
a. After the group presentations, provide the students with a checklist of personal safety protocols and ask them to self-evaluate their performance.
a. Developing Mastery b. Provide feedback and corrections as necessary and encourage the students to ask questions or clarify any points.
c. Facilitate a brief discussion on the importance of following personal safety protocols and how these protocols can help them avoid injury or medical emergencies.
b. Finding practical applications of a. Encourage the students to apply the personal safety protocols they learned in their daily lives, such as when exercising or playing sports, and remind them that these
concepts and skills in daily living protocols are not only applicable during MVPAs but also in everyday activities.
c. Generalizing and abstractions a. Facilitate a class discussion on the importance of personal safety protocols in physical activities, the effects of dehydration, overexertion, hypo-, and hyperthermia on one's
about the lesson health, and how to avoid these conditions.
a. To evaluate the learning of the students, give them a quiz that covers the personal safety protocols and the effects of dehydration, overexertion, hypo-, and hyperthermia.
d. Evaluating Learning
b. Use the results of the quiz to determine which areas the students need more assistance with, and provide remediation as necessary.
a. Ask the students to create a personal safety protocol checklist for an activity that they enjoy doing.
e. Additional Activities for
b. Provide a scenario wherein a student ignored personal safety protocol and suffered from dehydration, overexertion, hypo- or hyperthermia. Ask the students to identify

what could have been done to prevent the condition.
