INSTRUCTIONS: The exam is good from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. It must be
with solutions and figures. When finished, take very clear photos of your work and submit it to Google Classroom then to messenger (secret convo) with labeling. Follow instructions, please or you will get demerits.
Problems: Show solutions and figure.
1. A tank of 2.82 ft3 volume is to be filled by a gasoline pump in 75 seconds. Determine the average-pump flow exit velocity if the pump exit diameter is 1.5 inches.
2. Determine the velocity at the center of the pipe, as shown
with water flowing through it using a Pitot tube with a coefficient of 0.98.
3. Find the length of a standard waste weir which will be large
enough to discharge a rainfall of 3 cm per hour on a drainage area of 10 sq km. The head of the crest of the weir is 1.20 m. Use Francis formula.
4. Water flows through a 75-mm-diameter pipe directly into a
container that has a volume of 0.75 cu.m. Find the rate and the velocity of flow through the pipe if the time required to fill the container is 4 mins and 15 seconds.
5. Oils flows through a tube at a Reynolds Number of 1850. The
tube is 120 m long, diameter of 10 mm and the head loss of the oil flowing through it is 30 m. a) What is the friction factor? b) Determine the kinematic viscosity of the oil in m2/s. c) Compute for the discharge in the tube in liters per min. 6. Find the velocity, slope, and discharge of the semicircular channel (figure shown on the right) which is to carry water at a depth of 0.30 m at the critical stage.
7. What should be the depth of flow of a rectangular channel
5.5 m wide, to carry a flow of 0.992 m3/s. Use n = 0.011 and a channel slope of 7.8 10-4.
8. Water is flowing in a 3 m wide rectangular channel. A
hydraulic jump occurs and the depth of flow upstream is 360 mm deep while the depth of flow downstream from the jump is 1300 mm deep. Determine the discharge flowing in the channel.
