Oil Cooler Solenoid, Replacement


This information covers servicing the oil cooler solenoid on the D11H and D13H engines.

Solenoid, Oil Cooler, Replacement

You must read and understand the precautions and


guidelines in Service Information, Group 20, "General
Safety Practices, Engine" before performing this
procedure. If you are not properly trained and certified
in this procedure, ask your supervisor for training before
you perform it.

Removal

Turn the wheels to the right.

Remove all cables from the ground (negative) battery
terminals to prevent personal injury from electrical shock.

Raise the hood.

Remove the right side inner fender.

Remove the cable ties as needed and disconnect the
wiring harness from the oil cooler thermostat control
solenoid.

On the D11H engine:
1 Disconnect the turbocharger oil supply line at the
turbocharger and at the oil filter housing, and remove.
2 Remove the fasteners securing the oil drain tube to
the turbocharger. Discard the gasket.
Note: Catch any oil that drains in an approved container.

Remove the oil cooler thermostat control solenoid
fasteners and remove the solenoid from the oil filter
housing.

Note: Catch any oil that drains in an approved container.

Installation

Clean the valve contact surface on the oil filter housing.

Lubricate a new O-ring with clean engine oil and install
onto the oil cooler thermostat control solenoid.

Install the oil cooler thermostat control solenoid into the
valve bore in the oil filter housing.

1 Piston Cooling Jet Pressure Sensor
2 Oil Cooler Thermostat Control Solenoid
3 Piston Cooling Jet Control Solenoid.

Install the fasteners and tighten to specification.

On the D11H engine:
1 Clean the gasket sealing surfaces on the oil drain tube
and the turbocharger.
2 Install the oil drain tube on the turbocharger using
a new gasket. Install the fasteners and tighten to
specification.
3 Install the oil supply line to the oil filter housing using
a new sealing ring. Install the oil supply line to the
turbocharger. Tighten both ends of the oil supply line
to specification.

Connect the wiring harness to the oil cooler thermostat
control solenoid. Install cable ties as required to secure
the wiring harness.

Install the right side inner fender

Install all previously removed cables to the ground
(negative) battery terminals.

Start the engine and check for leaks. Replenish
crankcase oil level as required.

Verify the problem has been corrected using Guided
Diagnostics.

Close the hood.

Straighten front wheels.
