MONTESSORI BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

ORDER OF PRESENTATION
1. Gather Materials

a. 2-D representation of the Sun

b. Labels with names of each Month

c. Globe

d. Photos of the Birthday child from all their previous

birthdays. Birth to present.

e. One votive candle to be placed on top of the sun.

Plus the number of candles of the age of the

birthday child.

f. Story of the Child's Life

2. Make a cirle with the candles of the age of the birthday

child. Place the sun in the middle. Place the final candle

on top of the sun.

3. Place the months around the sun, encouraging the

child(ren) to say the months along with you.

4. First, light the sun candle. Sit with the child(ren) leaving

room for the birthday child to walk around the sun.

5. "The sun and candle light in the center of our circle

represent our Sun. It is very hot. It takes one year for our

earth to travel around the sun. _________was born the

month of _______."

6.Give the child the globe and ask them to stand next to

thast month. Instruct the child to walk around the circle

slowly.

7. As the child walks sing: (to the tune The Farmer in the

Dell)

The earth goes round the sun,

the earth goes round the sun,

the earth goes round the sun, tra la

And now ________ is (1)

8. Light one of the votive candles. "I light this candle to

represent ______'s 1st birthday." Read the story of the

child's life accomplishments from birth to one.

9. Repeat until the child has circled around for each

year of their life. Each time singing, lighting a candle,

and reading their story for that year.

10.On the final candle: "And now ______ is ___!" Clap

for each year of the child's life. The child makes a wish

and blows out the candles on the tray. Sing Happy

Birthday.
