TITLE
INVESTIGATION OF THE FEASIBILITY OF AN
ECONOMICAL SALTWATER LAMP FOR IMPOVERISHED
RURAL COMMUNITIES

GAP
After conducting thorough research on the feasibility of an
economical saltwater lamp for impoverished rural communities, it
was found that there is a significant research gap in understanding
the efficiency caused by corrosion that may affect the adoption and
sustained use of such a lamp. While there have been studies on
saltwater lamps' technical feasibility and economic viability, there
needs to be more research on the efficiency caused by corrosion that
may influence the acceptance and utilization of this technology
among rural communities. Therefore, further research is needed to
explore the efficiency caused by corrosion that may impact the
feasibility and effectiveness of an economical saltwater lamp in
improving the living conditions of impoverished rural communities.

FRAMEWORK
This framework aims to identify and visualize the
relationship between variables such as the control variable,
independent variable, and dependent variable of this research study.
By identifying the relationship between these variables, the
researchers will be able to determine how corrosion can affect the
efficiency and durability of saltwater lamps. Thus, using
illustrations and concepts, researchers can adjudicate the connection
of the variables with each other.

The Input-Process-Output model is shown in the figure above,

which will be followed by an investigation of the feasibility of an
economical saltwater lamp for impoverished rural communities. The
input section requires materials such as a cylindrical container, a
cube container, water, salt, electrodes, and a bulb. The Process
Section included Experiment, Observation, Gathering of data,
Statistical Analysis, and Interpretation of the data. The Output
section stated that the main objective of this experiment was to
increase the time for electrical output, reduce material costs, and
improve cell life durability.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study explores the feasibility of implementing saltwater
lamps as an alternative lighting solution in rural areas. Traditional
sources like kerosene lamps and candles present health and safety
issues, require fuel or replacement costs and negatively impact the
environment. The study aims to evaluate cost, sustainability, and
flexibility.

1. What is the level of performance of the improvised saltwater

lamp compared to commercially available lamps?

2. Is there a significant difference in the level of performance

between the improvised saltwater lamp and the commercial?

3. What is the suitable salt and water ratio in order to maximize

the durability of the power source?

4. What suitable material or strategies can improve the quality

and mitigate the corrosion rate over time?

DESIGN

The research design used in this research is the experimental

quantitative study. The researchers will test the saltwater lamp
prototype in terms of how much energy it can generate and its

durability. The researchers will create this prototype by following

the procedures stated in a similar research. In the study above, the
researchers will assess the feasibility of the saltwater lamp and
compare it to commonly used lighting solutions in impoverished
rural communities. The independent and dependent variables would
be the electricity produced by the lamp and the salinity of the water,
respectively. The energy generated depends on the saltwater lamp's
ratio of salt to water.
