Narrative Report:
Implementation of the National Learning Camp

INTRODUCTION

In support of the MATATAG Basic Education Agenda and in partnership with


the National Learning Recovery Program (NLRP), Gamban Dadatan National High
School participated the National Learning Camp (NLC) held throughout the 2022-
2023 End-of-School Year break. The following report outlines the program's
execution from July 24 to August 25, 2023, consisting of 36 students.

CAMP ACTIVITIES AND ENRICHMENT

Week 1 (July 24-28, 2023): Anticipation & Excitement

The camp began with high enthusiasm!

Day 1 (Opening): As the first day of the camp went on, the Camp Masters and
Campers held an opening program dubbed as “The Arrival of the Camp Island
Hoppers”. Learning Camp orientation, signing of commitment and boodle fight were
the highlights of the activity.

Day 2-4 (Camp Sessions): The Camp Masters demonstrated resilience by


reestablishing the learning rhythm and focusing on real-world challenges linked to
the lessons and camp activities. The materials provided by the central office were
utilized. And, fun-filled activities were conducted to make sure the campers
enjoyment while attending the learning camp program.

Day 5 (LAC Session): Given the time constraint and attendance dynamics,
discussions centered on adapting the curriculum and practices to encourage
campers to complete the learning program.

Week 2 (July 31-August 4, 2023): Active Participation and Feedbacking

Day 6 (Checking of Workbooks and Preparation of Learning Materials): The


Camp Masters were occupied in checking the outputs of the campers from last
week’s activities and engaged in preparing for this week’s learning quests.

Day 7-9(Camp Sessions): There were campers who were not able to attend from
last week’s sessions who came in this week. The Camp Masters acknowledged their
attendance and welcomed their presence.

Day 10 (LAC Session): Feedbacking of last week and this week’s performance of
the campers was the focus of the discussion. The Camp Masters agreed to spare
the cash allowance and share it instead for the campers to have free snacks and
free lunch.

Week 3 (August 7-11, 2023): Strengthening the Learning Camp Program

Day 11 (Checking of Workbooks and Preparation of Learning Materials): The


Camp Masters were occupied in checking the outputs of the campers from last
week’s activities and engaged in preparing for this week’s learning quests.

Day 12-14 (Camp Sessions): Interactive approaches were established by the Camp
Masters to ensure the fun-learning environment of the campers.

Day 15 (LAC Session): The Camp Masters shared insights on students' progress,
the camp best practices and the opportunities to work on.

Week 4 (August 14-18, 2023): Application & Real-World Integration

Day 16 (Checking of Workbooks and Preparation of Learning Materials): The


Camp Masters were occupied in checking the outputs of the campers from last
week’s activities and engaged in preparing for this week’s learning quests.

Day 17-19(Camp Sessions): Campers were exposed to outdoor learning wherein


sessions were conducted outside the classrooms.

Day 20 (LAC Session): Camp Masters reviewed practical exercises and


acknowledged the equal contribution of genders in group tasks.

Week 5 (August 21-25, 2023): Reflection, Consolidation & Celebration

Day 22-24 (Camp Sessions): The final week encouraged campers to showcase
their projects, demonstrate collaborative skills, and ensure complete attendance for
concluding festivities and presentations.

Day 25 (Culmination): Awarding of Certificate of Completion to campers who
actively participated and completed the program was conducted. On top of that, the
Camp Masters prepared delicious and mouth-watering food to celebrate the pinnacle
of the 25-day Learning Camp Program of the school. A get-together lunch through
boodle fight was held and on the latter part of the day, the entire camp went to the
beach to celebrate the so-called “The Departure of the Camp Island Hoppers”.

And the camp ended with high enthusiasm!

Improvement of Learner Outcomes: Through personalized attention, tailored


assessments, and targeted interventions, the NLC fostered a notable improvement in
the academic performance of the participating students. Regular progress
assessments allowed the teachers to identify areas of improvement and adjust the
teaching strategies accordingly. By the end of the camp, it was evident that students
had gained a deeper understanding of the subjects, exhibited higher levels of
confidence, and displayed a newfound passion for learning.

Strengthening Teachers' Competence: The camp leaders, as experienced


educators, not only facilitated academic growth but also provided a valuable
opportunity for the teachers to collaborate, share insights, and refine their
instructional approaches. The teachers engaged in daily reflections, peer
evaluations, and professional development sessions that enhanced their
pedagogical skills. This, in turn, had a positive impact on the students' learning
experience, creating a cycle of continuous improvement.

Student Enjoyment and Growth

The participants' enthusiasm and engagement throughout the National Learning


Camp were truly inspiring. Students expressed genuine delight in their learning
journey, forming strong bonds with their peers and teachers. The interactive and
dynamic nature of the camp sessions kept them motivated and curious. As the
weeks progressed, it was evident that not only were the students absorbing
knowledge, but they were also developing a love for learning that extended beyond
the camp's duration.

Conclusion

The National Learning Camp conducted under the Consolidation Camp and
Intervention Camp has been a resounding success, aligning with the DepEd's
dedication to the National Learning Recovery Program. The achievements realized
during this 5-week journey have proven the effectiveness of the camp's approach in
improving learner outcomes and enhancing teacher competence. The commitment,

hard work, and passion demonstrated by both students and teachers reflect the
potential for positive change within the education system. As the camp concludes,
the lessons learned and the memories created will continue to influence the
participants' educational journeys, serving as a beacon of inspiration for the larger
educational community.
