“Hidden Figures”
The film Hidden Figures is a powerful and inspiring story of three African American
women who overcame significant challenges to make significant contributions to
NASA's space program. The film's portrayal of gender dynamics is complex and
nuanced, and it offers valuable insights into the challenges that women still face in
the workplace today.
The three main characters in the film, Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and
Mary Jackson, are all intelligent, capable, and dedicated women. However, they also
face significant challenges due to their gender and race.
Mary Jackson is an engineer who wants to become a NASA engineer, but she
is initially blocked from doing so because of her race. She is told that she
cannot attend the engineering school that she wants to go to because it is for
white students only. She perseveres and eventually becomes the first African
American woman to work as an engineer at NASA.

The film shows how these women were able to overcome the challenges they faced
due to their gender and race. They did so through their intelligence, hard work,
determination, and support from each other and from a few key allies.
The film's portrayal of gender dynamics is complex and nuanced. It shows how
gender and race intersect to create unique challenges for women in the workplace.
The film also shows how women can overcome these challenges through their own
hard work and determination, as well as through the support of others.
The film Hidden Figures is a reminder that we are not alone in our struggles. It is a
story of hope and inspiration, and it reminds us that we can overcome any challenge
when we work together. In addition to the challenges faced by the women in the film,
I would also like to add that women in the workplace still face challenges today, such
as:
Unequal pay: Women still earn less than men for doing the same work.
Lack of representation: Women are underrepresented in leadership positions
in many industries.
Sexual harassment: Women are still at risk of sexual harassment in the
workplace.
