About RIT & Mechanical Engineering

Ramaiah Institute of Technology was founded by
Late Dr. M.S. Ramaiah, an illustrious son of
Karnataka under the Gokula Education Foundation
(GEF) in 1962, with the objective of producing
high-quality professionals to meet the demands of
technical education. RIT is accredited with ‘A
grade by NAAC, University Grants Commission
& Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU)
have conferred Autonomous Status to MSRIT
since 2007.
The department has grown strong over the last 60
years. with the intake rising to 120 UG students
educated by a teaching staff comprising 36
members. The Department of Mechanical
Engineering has a team of dynamic and well
qualified faculty (85% faculty with Ph D) with a
passion for research. It is recognized as a Research
center by VTU in 2013. The faculty members of
the Mechanical Engineering department have
taken up a number of research projects funded by
many external agencies like DRDO, DST, CMTI,
AICTE, VGST and VTU and have received
funding to the tune of Rs. 1 Crore. The department
offered a new PG Course on cutting-edge
technology: Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.

Minimum Educational Qualification
• M. Tech (Mechanical Engineering and Industrial
Engineering and Management) with 60% marks or
equivalent CGPA
• Qualified UGC-JRF/CSIR-JRF, NET/SLET/GATEor
equivalent eligibility test or VTU Eligibility Test for
Research

SELECTION PROCEDURE
• Eligible Candidates from VTU-ETR / UGC-JRF /
NET/SLET can apply to RIT for PhD admission.
• The Course work, Comprehensive Viva-Voce,
Thesis evaluation will be conducted by RIT under
autonomous scheme as per RIT Research guidelines
and PhD degree will be awarded by VTU
• All selected candidates are eligible for Ramaiah
Doctoral Fellowship of ₹ 25,000/- per month for 3
Years
