SAND CASTING

STEP SCREENSHOT

Step 1: Get your flask ready.

A flask is a wood or metal frame that

supports the molding sand. It has 2
pieces: the cope (the top of the frame)
and the drag (the bottom part of the
frame).

Step 2: Prepare your flask.

To start, flip over the drag piece and put

some powder in it. This process is
crucial to preventing the sand from
sticking to the surface of your
workplace.

Step 3: Start applying the facing sand.

Note! when doing so, make sure to

strain the sand to ensure a smooth cast.
Step 4:

After putting in the facing sand, add

additional sand until the drag (bottom
part of the flask) is full.

Step 5:

Compress the sand to make sure that it

is compact.

Step 6:

Smooth and flatten the surface by

removing any excess sand. This process
is also known as "striking".

Step 7: Flip the drag and connect the

cope (the flask's top).

After connecting those two pieces,

proceed to add more sand.
Step 8:

after compacting and striking the

additional sand. Proceed to remove the
cope by lifting it carefully. and the
pattern.

Step 9:

Carefully attach the cap after

completing all of the extra procedures
to refine the mold. And then, after this
step, we are now ready to pour the
molten material.

Step 10: The Melting Process.

This is the process where you melt your

material.

Step 11:

After melting your material, you can

now pour it into your flask. But before
pouring, make sure that you remove all
the slag that floats on the top of your
molten material.
Step 12:

After cooling, disassemble the flask,

and remove the casting (the resultant
product).

Step 13: Remove any extra material.

If there is an imperfection or residue,

you can proceed to remove it by
sanding, grinding it, or any other
method you want to produce your
desired casting. This method is also
known as “flashing”.

Step 14: The Final Step (this is

optional).

If you are working with multiple

castings, you can now assemble all
those parts to create your finished
product.
Conclusion:

Sand casting is a type of casting that utilizes the use of sand to form a wide variety of
castings. And like the other casting types, sand casting is a casting process where it first creates a
mold, fills the mold with the melted materials, and removes the mold for further finishing
processes. But unlike the other types of casting, sand casting is relatively cheaper since sand
itself is inexpensive.
