SAFETY NOTICE
(No. SD-08/19 R00)
A. Purpose
This SAFETY NOTICE provides safety guidance material to remind all Qualified Maintenance
Personnel and Flight Crews involved in Checking Aircraft after suspected Hard Landing about
IDENTIFYING PARAMETER to CONFIRM HARD LANDING.
It is intended for general information, and does not override those procedures developed by
Aircraft Manufacturer or CAAV.
B. Applicable
Any Qualified Maintenance Personnel and Flight Crew engaged in Checking Aircraft after
Landing are advised to take account of the guidance material set out in this SAFETY NOTICE.
C. Reference
Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) Task 05-51-11-200-004-B & 05-51-11-200-004-C
List of Reportable Occurrences
D. Background
While analysis reports of Hard Landing provided by Flight Crews and Maintenance Engineers,
the Safety Department has realized the trend of flight crews and maintenance personnel tend
to confirm a hard landing by VRTA – vertical acceleration.
But, according to Aircraft Maintenance Manual issued by Airbus, not always VRTA is the only
parameter to confirm Hard Landing. In fact, there are two different method to confirm hard
landing and applied to different aircraft.
To prevent the risk of miss-evaluation after suspected hard landing, Safety Department issue
this notice to remind all qualified maintenance staff and flight crew about policy to report and
two methods to confirm hard landing events.
E. Definitions
 The “Load report <15>” which is contains landing parameters will be printed out automatically
or manually as following steps:
a. Push MCDU key
b. Push AIDS
c. Push STORED REPORTS
d. Find LOAD REPORT <15>, push the line key adjacent to the related report.
e. Push PRINT

The Load Report <15> shows the CODE which are used to analyse the landing parameters.

Sample of Load Report <15>

If the CODE is 4xxx, flight crew must inform MCC/Maintenance Department for their actions.

F. Safety Division Recommendation:

 For the Flight Crews:
- Whenever flight crew confirm hard landing or load reports automatically are generated
and printed out, flight crew MUST inform MCC/Maintenance Department IMMEDIATELY
for aircraft inspection before next flight.
- When suspected hard landing, flight crew can manually print load report by using
MCDU/AIDS/Store Report/Load Report <15>/PRINT.
If the trigger CODE is 4xxx, flight crew must inform MCC/Maintenance Department
immediately for their actions.
Note: The landing parameters are also monitored by Flight Data Monitoring System
(Airfase) and recorded in DFDR.
 For Maintenance & Engineering Department:
- Always refer AMM 05-51-11 to confirm hard landing or hard overweight landing. Select
correct Aircraft Registration or MSN before searching AMM tasks.
- There are 02 methods are used to confirm hard landing based on the DMU/FDIMU Part
Number and related software.
To know the P/Ns of the DMU/FDIMU and related software, refer to the Line Replaceable
Unit (LRU) identification page or Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC) 31-36-08

1. For the Aircraft equipped with ENHANCE DMU/FDIMU LOAD Report 15, the Hard
Landing event is confirmed by VRTA and Gross Weight (GW) vs Maximum Landing
Weight (MLW):

2. For the Aircraft equipped with FDIMU Load report 15 Standard in Software
(10TV2), the Hard Landing is confirmed by trigger code.
If the trigger codes are 4520, 4620, 4420, 4320, 4510, 4610, 4410 or 4310, the hard
landing is confirmed.
