1 Identify the hazards
The first step is to identify the hazards
that are present in the confined space.
This includes identifying any toxic gases,
fumes, vapors, or dusts that may be
present, as well as any oxygen deficiency
or flammable atmospheres.

2 Assess the hazards
Once the hazards have been identified,
they need to be assessed to determine
the level of risk. This includes
considering the concentration of any
toxic substances, the oxygen level, and
the potential for fire or explosion.

3 Develop a safe work
plan
Once the hazards have been assessed, a
safe work plan needs to be developed.
This plan should include procedures for
entry and exit, ventilation, monitoring,
and emergency response.

4 Provide training.
Workers who will be entering confined
spaces need to be trained on the hazards
involved and the safe work procedures.

5 Use the right equipment
Workers should use the right equipment
to protect themselves from the hazards
in the confined space. This may include
respirators, gas detectors, and safety
harnesses

Always have a designated attendant
outside the confined space who can
monitor the worker's status and provide
assistance if needed.

Use a confined space entry permit to

document the hazards assessment, safe
work plan, and other relevant
information.

Conduct regular inspections of confined

spaces to ensure that they are safe for
entry.

Never enter a confined space if you are

not trained and equipped to do so.
