SOP FOR DESTRUCTION OF MICROBIAL WASTE

Objective: To safely and effectively dispose of microbial waste to prevent contamination.

Scope: This SOP applies to all personnel responsible for handling and disposing of microbial waste.

Procedure:

Collection and Segregation:

a. Collect microbial waste (cultures, contaminated materials) in designated containers.

b. Segregate waste as per local regulations.

Decontamination:

a. Autoclave or sterilize the waste using an approved method.

b. Ensure proper sterilization parameters are met.

Storage:

a. Store sterilized waste in designated waste storage areas.

Disposal:

a. Arrange for the safe disposal of sterilized waste through approved waste disposal services or as per
local regulations.

b. Maintain disposal records.
