Dear Clare
I am writing to express my interest in the Customised Employment (CE)
Counsellor position at Ability Works, as advertised. While my counselling work
history may not directly align with this field, I offer a unique blend of
qualifications, hands-on experience with neurodiverse clients, and a
longstanding commitment to the not-for-profit sector.
Through my work with clients on the autism spectrum, I've gained insights into
the challenges and opportunities that individuals with disabilities encounter in
the job market. I understand the significance of involving the client’s family and
support networks, to enable them to feel valued and well informed. My
experiences have honed my empathy, active listening skills, and appreciation
for self-determination, and fostering a sense of trust and inclusion.
My dedication to the not-for-profit sector aligns seamlessly with Ability Works
Australia's mission. I share your belief that employment should offer more than
income—it should foster a sense of belonging, nurture friendships, and provide
daily inspiration within a structured and supportive environment.
My experience lies primarily in counselling and support, however I am
enthusiastic about expanding my expertise to encompass the intricacies of
NDIS requirements. I am fully prepared to proactively engage in learning about
NDIS Practice Standards, including preparations for NDIS audits, governance,
and operational management responsibilities. While I may require on-the-job
training, I am eager to build on my foundation and master the specialised
techniques essential for CE counselling. I am more than willing to undertake a
Customised Employment course, if required, to further enhance my skills and
knowledge.
I am particularly drawn to Ability Work's inclusive and diverse social enterprise,
offering a safe haven for those facing employment barriers. My firsthand
experience supporting my daughter, who has a mild intellectual disability and
mental health issues, in her employment journey equips me with the
knowledge and empathy needed to advocate for individuals with similar
challenges.
I have had the privilege of working with esteemed organisations such as World
Vision and Uniting, where I dedicated many years to their mission-driven work.
This experience has not only allowed me to develop a deep understanding of
the not-for-profit sector but has also instilled in me a strong commitment to
the values of compassion, social justice, and community service.
I have a masters in counselling, and hold a current level 2 membership with the
Australian Counselling Association, ensuring that I maintain the highest
standards of professional training, continuing professional development, and
ethical conduct. Furthermore, I possess competency in MS Applications,
allowing me to efficiently manage documentation and communication.
Thank you for considering my application. I eagerly anticipate the chance to
discuss how my unique background can benefit Ability Works.
Sincerely,
Holly Hudson
