NATIONAL LEARNING CAMP 2023


NARRATIVE REPORT IN
ENGLISH

I. Introduction

The National Learning Camp was initiated by the Department of Education, this camp was

set to provide spectacular learning experience to the learners where knowledge meets adventure,

and young minds are ignited with curiosity and passion. In the heart of the National Learning Camp

the goal is to embark thrilling learning explorations that transcend traditional boundaries of

education, pushing the limits of what learning can be.

Ultimately, to show support to the Department of Education the San Fernando South

Central Integrated School embrace National Learning Camp that could be seen in the large number

of teachers who volunteered in this camp. Truly, this initiative shows collaborative effort of the

school to mold the learners to be at their best that bridges in building a better society in the future.

This program spanned for 3 weeks for the Enhancement Group and 5 weeks for the

Consolidation Group. The school recognizes the need for a program to address challenges faced by

students struggling specifically in English. English is the medium of instruction in many subjects,

students often need to be proficient in English. Additionally, English is a key subject in most

curricula, helping students develop critical thinking, communication, and writing skills.

There are more than 155 learners who joined the pilot of the National Learning Camp. The

class period of learners was scheduled during Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The first day of the learning camp is a mix of excitement, introductions, activities, and setting

the class for the days to come. It's a time for participants to embark on their learning journey, explore

new experiences, and build connections with their fellow campers and teachers. However, due to

weather disturbances, classes were cancelled for the following days. The succeeding week was a

great opportunity to develop a greater mood and relationship with the learners. Teachers were able to

identify individual difficulties of learners in English. Collaboration and small group discussion were

also done within and among teachers to discuss matters about the camp and needs of the learners.

One of the many activities that was given to the learners, which is the highlight of the Camp

was the amazing race where the 3 subjects; English, Mathematics, and Science collaborate to give

the students an activity that enables them to go out and use all the corners of the school. Each stations

have their own task that has a connection on their subjects. The Amazing Race showcases the ups

and downs of relationships between the learners. This dynamic can serve as a reminder of the

importance of strong interpersonal relationships and the challenges that can arise when working

closely with others.

The successful national learning camps can serve as models for educational programs and

policies, inspiring innovative approaches to teaching and learning. This camp have the potential to

bring about a wide range of positive outcomes, enriching the lives of participants and contributing to

personal, educational, and societal growth. The National Learning Camp is not just an event; it's an

experience that transforms lives. It reminds us that education transcends boundaries, that knowledge

empowers, and that unity strengthens. The National Learning Camp will forever be a defining

moment—a testament to the power of education, unity, and the boundless potential of our nation's

youth.
