Date: February 23, 2024
Event: Catch Up Fridays - Enhancing Reading Skills
Venue: San Jose National High School
Participants: Grade 9 Students
Last Friday, on February 23, 2024, San Jose National High School embarked on an
exciting journey towards enhancing the reading skills of its students as part of the Catch
Up Fridays initiative. This endeavor aimed not only to improve literacy but also to make
the learning process more engaging and enjoyable for the students.
The afternoon began with an air of anticipation as
Grade 9 students gathered eagerly to participate
in a unique learning experience. The highlight of
the day was a Facebook Live session sponsored by
the Department of Education (DEPED), which
showcased innovative strategies for enhancing
reading skills while infusing fun and excitement
into the process.
With rapt attention, the students watched as
expert educators demonstrated various techniques
and activities designed to make reading both enjoyable and effective. From interactive
storytelling to creative reading exercises, the
session was filled with valuable insights and
practical tips that promised to transform the
way students approached reading.
One of the key takeaways from the session was
the importance of fostering a love for reading
by introducing students to a diverse range of
literary genres and formats. Through engaging
activities such as book clubs, reading circles,
and storytelling competitions, educators could
create an immersive reading environment that
inspired curiosity and exploration.
Moreover, the session emphasized the significance of incorporating technology into reading
instruction to cater to the digital natives of today's generation. By leveraging online
resources, educational apps, and multimedia platforms, educators could enhance the
reading experience and cater to the diverse learning preferences of students.
