SCENE ONE: EXT: HIGHSTREET – EARLY MORNING:

ZAINUB AND HUGO on a date, they are chatting, laughing, basic things couples do.
Then they are walking, holding hands down the street. They have just finished a date.

ZAINUB
My family are having a gathering tomorrow, I wanted you to come
meet them.

HUGO
Sure! What could go wrong?

SOUNDS: LAUGHING, WIND BLOWING, DOGS BARKING.

SCENE TWO: INT: BIG HALL – EARLY EVENING:

A clock appears, the minutes are ticking away on this clock before we enter a room.
ZAINUB KHAN, with BOYFRIEND AND SUSAN in the hall for the party. Crowd
of others dancing and chatting in the background. She has decided to come out to her
AUNTIE about her boyfriend. AUNTIE and AUNTIE 2 barges in. Auntie close up off
her face glaring.

AUNTIE:
BETA THAT IS THE MAN YOU LOVE? HE IS NOT
ACCEPTABLE.

ZAINUB
BUT AUNTIE I LOVE HIM!

AUNTIE 2:
HE IS NOT BROWN DOCTOR!

The scenes cut to a close up of the aunties disapproving face. She glares. Change to
Zainub pleading for her approval. Change to BOYFRIEND face of him looking
confused. Back to Auntie. Back to Zainub.

AUNTIE
You are disgrace to this family!

Close ups of shocked faces from everyone.

SOUNDS: GASPS, WHISPERING.

CUTS TO

SCENE THREE: INT: HALL - EVENING:

Dance scene. Only about 10 seconds, dance off between the AUNTIE AND AUNTIE
2 vs ZAINUB, SUSAN AND BOYFRIEND.

SOUNDS: DOORS SLAMMING, MURMURS.

SCENE FOUR: INT: BATHROOM - EVENING:

AUNTIE and AUNTIE 2 are gossiping in the toilets. Auntie is angry and auntie 2 is
doing her makeup and fixing her clothes.

AUNTIE
She’s in love with a gora. We can’t have this. She was destined for
more.

AUNTIE 2:
No you are right. she deserves brown boy. not this white supermarket
boy.

AUNTIE:
I need to do something about it

AUNTIE 2:
Then do it, I’m with you didi
CUTS TO

SCENE FIVE:
ZAINUB and SUSAN talking on a bench. The wind is blowing, camera shot behind.
Then 180 talking over the shoulder.

ZAINUB
(stressed out)
I don’t know what to do.

Susan
(tired)
Just speak to your aunties.

Zainub shocked face close up. Susan close up, annoyed face.

ZAINUB
Do you even know me?

Susan gasps and dramatically lifts her hand to slap Zainub.

SOUNDS: SLAP, GASP, LEAVES RUSTLING.

SCENE SIX: EXT: FIELD/STREET - MIDDAY:

ZAINUB is walking with her boyfriend, HUGO in the distance. AUNTIE comes up
and a gun shot go off. We only see her hand, we don’t know who it is.

SOUNDS: GUNSHOT, SCREAM, BODY DROPPING
