Theme: “ Healthy Diet Gawing Affordable For All”

Date: July 1 to July 4, 2023

Prepared by: Yen Oh Yeppeun, Teacher III and Nutrition Coordinator at FB Elementary
School

The Nutrition Month Celebration at FB Elementary School took place from July 1
to July 4, 2023, with the theme "Healthy Diet Gawing Affordable For All." The event
aimed to promote awareness of the importance of a nutritious diet and demonstrate
how making healthy food choices can be accessible to everyone, even on a tight budget.

In the last week of June, the Nutrition Month activities were meticulously
planned by the collaboration of the Grade Leaders from Kinder to Grade 6, the School
Nurse, the School Principal, and myself, the School Nutrition Coordinator. Our goal
was to create engaging and informative events that would resonate with both students
and faculty members.

On July 1, we assembled to install the Nutrition Month tarpaulin on the school

grounds. This tarpaulin prominently displayed the theme and key messages of the
celebration. Present during this activity were the School Principal, Nurse, District
Coordinator, and the School Feeding Coordinator.

Launching Day - July 4, The Nutrition Month celebration kicked off with a school
parade within the premises. Students participated while wearing creatively designed
nutritional headdresses, showcasing their commitment to healthy eating.

Nutrition Month Program Highlights:

Nutri-Talk: We invited a city Dietician to deliver an insightful talk on the significance of

maintaining a healthy diet and how to achieve it despite financial constraints.

Contests:

Best Headdress Contest (Kinder to Grade 3): Students from Kinder to Grade 3 displayed
their imaginative headdresses, incorporating nutritious food elements, showcasing their
artistic skills and nutrition knowledge.
Slogan and Poster Making Contest (Grade IV to Grade VI): Students from Grade IV to
Grade VI participated in this contest, creating thought-provoking slogans and eye-
catching posters that promoted the theme "Healthy Diet Gawing Affordable For All."

Awarding of Winner: During the program, we recognized and awarded the winners of
the Best Headdress and Slogan and Poster Making Contests to acknowledge their
outstanding efforts and creativity.

On the following day, I conducted a Nutri Cooking demonstration for Grade 5

pupils, all EPP and TLE Teachers, the Master Teacher, School Principal, and School
Nurse. The focus of the cooking demonstration was to teach the audience how to
prepare nutritious and affordable dishes without preservatives.

Recipes Demonstrated:

Preservative-free Banana Blossoms: I highlighted the nutritional benefits of banana

blossoms and showcased how to prepare them into a delicious and healthy dish that fits
a tight budget.

Healthy Drinks: I demonstrated the preparation of refreshing and nutritious drinks

using readily available ingredients such as cucumber, celery, carrots, and pineapple.

The Nutrition Month Celebration at FB Elementary School was a resounding

success in raising awareness about the significance of maintaining a healthy diet, even
on a limited budget. Through collaborative efforts, engaging activities, and informative
talks, we were able to instill the importance of making nutritious food choices among
students and staff alike.

We extend our gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of this event,
especially the Grade Leaders, School Nurse, School Principal, and District Coordinator
for their unwavering support. We believe that this celebration has equipped our school
community with valuable knowledge and skills to make healthy food options accessible
for everyone.
