WHAT IS DRUG?

 is any substance that, when absorbed


into the body of a living organism, alters
normal bodily function.
 There is no single, precise definition, as
there are different meanings in drug
control law, government regulations,
medicine, and colloquial usage
GENERAL CLASSIFICATION OF
DANGEROUS DRUGS
ACCORDING TO EFFECTS
DEPRESSANT – group of drugs that has the effect of
depressing the central nervous system.
STIMULANT – group of drugs having the effect of
stimulating the central nervous system.
HALLUCINOGENS – group of drugs that are
considered to be mind altering drugs and give the
general effect of mood distortion.
THE DEPRESSANTS (DOWNERS)

NARCOTICS

 are drugs, which relieve pain and produce


profound sleep.
 Also known as “pain killers”.
 Opium and it derivatives are classified as
narcotics.
 OPIUM
Derived from OPIUM POPPY PLANT –
scientific PAPAVER SOMNIFERUM
- PAPAVER – Greek term means Poppy
- SOMNIFERUM – Latin means

 Opium can grow from 3 to 6 feet in height
and an origin of Mesopotamia.
 Its active ingredient is “meconic acid” – an
analgesic property
 First used as a pain killer in Byzantine Time
around 555 A.D.
MORPHINE

 Discovered by Friedrich Serturner.


 Most commonly used and best used opiate.
 Effective as a pain killer six times potent than
opium.
 Source of Soldier Disease during WWII
HEROIN
 Also known as Diacetylmorphine or Diamorphine
 Introduced by Bayer Company courtesy of Alder
Wright
 termed as “for whatever drugs”
 Three to five times more powerful than morphine.
 With continued use, addiction occurs within 14 days.
CODEINE

 Trimethylmorphine, a derivative of morphine


 Commonly available in a cough preparations
 Widely abused by the youth by its availability
PAREGORIC

 Originally known as Elixir Asthmaticum


 First used in Asthma
 Commonly used as a household remedy for
diarrhea and abdominal pain
DEMEROL
 Widely used as pain killer in childbirth
 Less safer then morphine

METHADONE
 Used to treat heroin dependents
 Lethal dose
 Anti-Addictive
BARBITURATES

 Discovered by Adolf Von Baeyer


 Came from the word St. Barbara
 From Animal Waste (Urea) and Ester of Apple
 Inducing sleep and a value treatment of epilepsy
VOLATILE SOLVENTS

 Gaseous substance poppularly known as “Gas” or


“teardrops”.
 Examples are plastic glues, hair spray, nail polish,
rugby, acetone, thinner and etc.
ALCOHOL

 King of all drugs.


 Socially accepted and most extensively legalized
drug throughout the world.

AMPETHAMINES

 Used recreationally and performance enhancer.


 Used medically for weight reducing obesity.
 Relief for mild depression and treatment
COCAINE
 dangerous drug that can be produced from coca
bush plant.

Street Names
 Poor man’s cocaine, “S”, shabs, ubas, siopao, sha,
ice
 Shabu is a white odorless crystal or crystalline
powder with a bitter numbing taste.
 Chemically, it is known as methamphetamine
hydrochloride
How Taken
By ingestion, inhalation (chasing the dragon),
sniffing (snorting), injection, or smoked with a small
pipe from a heated aluminum foil containing the drug
NICOTINE
 An active component of Tobacco.
 A drop of pure nicotine can easily kill a person.

Problem

1.Oplan Thunderbolt 1 -operation to create impact to


the underworld

of big time drug pushers drug dealer’s and drug

PROVISIONS OF
RA 9165
SEC. 5. Sale, Trading, Administration, Dispensation,
Delivery,Distribution and Transportation of Dangerous
Drugs and/orControlled Precursors and Essential
Chemicals.
- The penalty of life imprisonment to death and a
fine ranging from Five hundred thousand pesos
(P500,000.00) to Ten million pesos (P10,000,000.00) shall
be imposed upon any person, who, unless authorized by
law, shall sell, trade, administer, dispense, deliver, give
away to another, distribute, dispatch in transit or
transport any dangerous drug, including any and all
species of opium poppy regardless of the quantity and
purity involved, or shall act as a broker in any of such
transactions.
SEC. 11. Possession of Dangerous Drugs. – The penalty of life
imprisonment to death and a fine ranging from Five hundred
thousand pesos (P500,000.00) to Ten million pesos
(P10,000,000.00) shall be imposed upon any person, who,
unless authorized by law, shall possess any dangerous drug in
the following quantities, regardless of the degree of purity
thereof:
1) 10 grams or more of opium;
2) 10 grams or more of morphine;
3) 10 grams or more of heroin;
4) 10 grams or more of cocaine or cocaine hydrochloride;
5) 50 grams or more of methamphetamine hydrochloride or
“shabu”;
6) 10 grams or more of marijuana resin or marijuana resin oil;
7) 500 grams or more of marijuana;
8) 10 grams or more of other dangerous drugs
SEC. 15. Use of Dangerous Drugs. – A person apprehended or
arrested, who is found to be positive for use of any dangerous
drug, after a confirmatory test, shall be imposed a penalty
of a minimum of six (6) months rehabilitation in a
government center for the first offense, subject to the
provisions of Article VIII of this Act. If apprehended using
any dangerous drug for the second time, he/she shall
suffer the penalty of imprisonment ranging from six (6)
years and one (1) day to twelve (12) years and a fine ranging
from Fifty thousand pesos (P50,000.00) to Two hundred
thousand pesos (P200,000.00):
