Introductory  Prayer
Activity  Review about the previous topic

To introduce the sequencing lesson, and gain students’ attention, the teacher will tell a silly “out-of-
order” story about his/her day. For example: “This morning, I woke up and ate dinner. Then, put my
pajamas on and went to school. Next, I brushed my teeth and played with my friends”. This can lead into
a conversation about the importance of putting events in order. The teacher will ask some students.

The teacher will let the students identify the picture if it shows a pattern or not.

1. Banderitas
2. Coffee beans

3. Oyster shells

4. Stack of tones in the beach

The teacher will now ask the students based on the activity given by completing the pattern.

a. Color of the Banderitas: Yellow, Red, Blue, Orange, Yellow, Red, Green, Violet, _________

b. Number of coffee beans: 4, 6, ________

c. Tahong shells: open, close, open, _______

d. Number of stack of stones: 3, 5, _______

Think Pair Share

The students will be group into two; each pair will be given a piece of strip papers. Afterwards, the student will
then supply the missing term. The student will explain their work in front of the class.

Activity 1. Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Aug, _________, ___________

2. 5, 8, 11, 14, _____, 20, _____ …
3. 3, -6, _______, -24, 48, _______ ..
4. ½, 1, 3/2, 5/2, _______, 7/2, 4 _____
5. 1,4, 9, 16, ______, 36, 49, 64, ______

1. What pattern is shown in every item?

Analysis 2. If the pattern continues in each of the item, what will be the next item?

Abstraction The teacher will start the lesson proper.

The set of objects in the primary activity are called sequences.

What is a sequence?
Sequence
A sequence is a function whose domain is a finite set of positive integers {4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14,16} or an infinite
set {4, 6, 8, 10, 12….} It is a string object, like numbers, that follow a particular pattern.
Each element or object in the sequence is called a term. When the sequence goes on forever it is called an
infinite sequence, otherwise it is a finite sequence.
In the sequence {4, 6, 8, 10, 12, …}
a 1=4 first term
a 2=6 second term
a 3=8 third term
a 4=10 fourth term
a 5=12 fifth term
In finding the next term, find the common difference for the sequence. Subtract the first term from the second
term. Subtract the second term from the third term. To find the next value, add to the last given number.
Let us find the next terms of the following sequences.

Examples: Find the next three terms of each sequence given in the first five terms.

1 1 1 1 1
a. {3, 6, 9, 12, 15, …} b. {4, 8, 12, 16, 20, …} c. { , , , , ,…}
10 20 30 40 50

The students will answer the given problem below. They will be working with the same partner in the previous
activity.

Answer the following problems.

1. The table below shows the cost of renting the Cavite Hall at Island Cove Resort and Leisure Park in
Kawit, Cavite depending on the number of attendees.
Application Number of Persons Rental Cost in Peso
20 6200
25 6500
30 6800
35 7100

Jose booked the hall for a birthday party for 40 persons. How much will he pay? 7400
2. A rabbit population grew in the following patterns: 2, 4, 8, 16… if all the rabbits live and the pattern
continues, how many rabbits will be in the 8th generation? 32

Study the following patterns then supply the missing term to complete the sequence. Write your answer on a ¼
sheet of paper.
1. 2, 4, 7, 11, ______
Assessment 2. 7, 9, 11, ______, ______, 17, 19
3. 1, 8, 27, 64, 125, ______
4. 5, 10, 7, 14, 11, 22, 19, ______
5. 7, 14, 21, 28, _______
