What is the student learning goal(s) for this lesson idea? Students will be able to identify each
branch of government by hearing the responsibilities of each branch. Students will also tell me why
the branches of government are split into 3.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

X☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.

X☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based (Real world problems) and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing it via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation: I as the teacher will first ask students what they think the 3 branches of
government are. I will ask them what responsibilities they think the government should have. I will
then go over what the 3 branches are and their responsibilities. I will then go over why we need
branches instead of just 1 big government, and I will also go over the other types of government we

do not demonstrate in America (dictatorship, Oligarchy, etc.) Students will then use what they
learned and play a kahoot.
Managing student learning: This tool will cause a shift in student behavior. They will become more
social and interactive with each other. Using kahoot will create healthy competition in the classroom
and kids will become louder and more talkative. I will add a timer to my Kahoot to make sure they
stay on task, and also provide incentives for answering correctly.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Students become very engaged when working with Kahoot.
They are also able to express what they’ve learned by participating, and as the teacher I can see
their response time and where they are struggling.
Reflective Practice: I do believe that students will have a better understanding after participating in
this activity. Students love games and competition, and Kahoot combines both of those components.
