ABSTRACT
With the current water crises in India there is a need as well as opportunities to look for
alternative sources of water and its management in construction industry. In India waste
water treated is discharged in water bodies. So instead why not use the treated waste
water in construction industry. We used this treated waste water. The water samples used
were Primary Treated Waste Water (PTWW), Secondary Treated waste Water (STWW),
Grey Water (GW) and Tap Water (TW). The chemical composition of waters like pH,
Alkalinity, Hardness, Total Suspended Solids (TSS) etc. were tested in laboratory which
were found to be well within the IS standards. Using Treated Waste Water tests were
conducted on cement, fresh concrete and harden concrete The initial and final setting
times for PTWW and GW were found to be delayed compare to TW, but for STWW it
was near about same as TW. The compressive strength of concrete was found by casting
cubes for 7 days, 14 days, 28 days and compressive strength of cement mortar by casting
mortar cubes for 7 days and 28 days. The compressive strength obtained from STWW
was initially a slow process i.e. for 7 days and 14 days but the end results obtained at the
end of 28 days were satisfactory compared to PTWW, GW and TW. Hence after
conducting experiment for all types of water i.e. PTWW, STWW, GW and TW, STWW
was found to be appropriate and can be used in construction industry with least
environmental impact.
