TASK:

Identify the similarities and differences of:

a. geocentric and heliocentric model

Difference:
Geocentric Model- Earth is the center of the Solar System
-This model was widely accepted in ancient times and was supported
by astronomers like Claudius Ptolemy
Heliocentric Model- Sun is the center of the Solar System
- This model was proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus in the 16th
century and later refined by Johannes Kepler and Galileo Galilei.
Similarities – both astronomers thinks that the models that they proposed are moving in
nearly circular orbits.

b. formation of the universe and formation of the solar system

(Choose two theories)
Difference
Big bang Theory- all matter was compacted into a very small ball with infinite density
and intense heat called a Singularity
- 13 billion years ago
-origin of entire universe
Nebular Theory- from a large cloud of gas and dust
- 4.6 billion years ago
-formation of our solar system
Similarities
Both theories attempt to explain the origin of the universe itself
Both theories is believed by many scientists and astronomers due to the great evidence
they provide.

Describe the importance of knowing the continental drift theory in our life today.

Alfred Wegener’s continental drift theory can help in our life because Plate tectonics
provides crucial insights into fault systems, which are fractures in the Earth's crust along
which rocks have moved. By mapping fault lines and studying their activity, scientists
can predict where earthquakes are likely to occur, therefore we can minimize the loss of
life and property damage caused by these devastating natural disasters.
