EXERCISE 2 A current transformer of 30 VA and current ratio I1/I2= 250. It

supplies the measuring devices with a current of I2=5 A, and the total
impedance is 0.4 Ω. Calculate:
A) Primary intensity.

I 1=m. I 2
I 1=250 x 5=1250 A

B) The apparent power supplied.

EXERCISE 3 A single-phase transformer, having 620 turns in the primary and

422 turns in the secondary, is connected to a 220 V, 50 Hz sinusoidal
alternating network. Considering the ideal transformer calculate:
Transformation ratio
N 1 620
m= = =1 . 47 V
N 2 422
A) The voltage U2 of the secondary.
U 1 220
U 2= = =150 V
m 1. 47
B) The secondary voltage U2 if we change the mains frequency to 60 Hz.
U 1 220
U 2= = =150 V
m 1. 47

EXERCISE 4 Let there be an ideal single-phase transformer, the primary

winding has
35 turns and the secondary 78 turns.
A) What is the transformation ratio of the transformer?
35
m= =0 . 45 V
78
B) Is it a step-up or step-down transformer?
It is a step-up transformer because the number of secondary windings (N2) is
greater than the number of primary windings (N1).

C) If we apply 230V ac to the primary, what voltage is induced in the

secondary?
V 1 230
V 2= = =511.11V
m 0. 45
D) Whatif the secondary is consuming 0.75A, what current is flowing through
the primary?

I2 I2 0 . 75

I1 m 0 . 45
E) What power factor will the primary have and if the secondary has a
cos+=0.8?
306 . 7
Ps =0 . 75 x511. 11 x0 . 8=306 . 7 W Cos φ1 = =0 .8

EXERCISE 5. We want to transform the 230V of a modern installation into 127V

for an old receiver, for this we use a domestic step-down transformer.
A) What transformation ratio should we use?
V 1 230
m= = =1 . 81V
V 2 127
B) What current will the transformer primary draw if the receiver draws 2A?

I2 I2 2

I1 m 1 .81
C) What power is consumed by the primary if the secondary works with a
PF=0.9?

Pent .=V 1 . V 1 . FP
Pent .=(230)(1 .1 )(0 .9 )
Pent .=252 . 97 W ⇒ 253 W
