Q . Two coils have coefficient of coupling as 0.8. A current of 3 A in coil 1 produces a total flux of 0.4 mWb.

If
the current in coil 1 is reduced to zero in 3 ms, the voltage induced in coil 2 is 85 V. Determine the
inductance of coil 2 if number of turns of coil 1 is 300.

Q.A coil of 360 turns is linked by a flux of 200 μ Wb. If the flux is reversed in 0.01 second, then find the EMF
induced in the coil.

Q. When two coupled coils of equal self-inductance are connected series in one way, the net inductance is
12 mH and when they are connected in the other way, the net inductance is 4 mH. The maximum value of
inductance when they are connected in parallel in a suitable way is:
Q.The combined inductance of two coils connected in a series is 0.6 H and 0.1 H, depending on the relative
directions of the currents in coils. If one of the coils, when isolated, has a self-inductance of 0.2 H, then
calculate the mutual inductance?
Q. Two identical coupled inductors are connected in series. The measured inductances for the two possible
series connections are 380 μH and 240 μH. Their mutual inductance in μH is _____
SOLUTION:
Concept:

 When inductors are connected in series so that the magnetic field of one links with the other, the
effect of mutual inductance either increases or decreases the total inductance depending upon the
amount of magnetic coupling.
 The effect of this mutual inductance depends upon the distance apart of the coils and their
orientation to each other.
 Mutually connected series inductors can be classed as either “Aiding” or “Opposing” the total
inductance.
Q. Two coils having self-inductance of 3 H and 2 H, respectively, have mutual inductance of 2 H. They are
connected in series and carry a current of 4 A. Calculate the energy of the magnetic field when the self and
mutual fluxes are in the same direction.
