Laboratory Exercise No. 6

SANITIZERS AND PRODUCT QUALITY
Objectives
This laboratory exercise aims to;
1. Know the effect/s of sanitizer to quality of produce;

2. Observe changes on the structure of plant tissues; and
3. Explain the importance of disinfection and sanitation to agricultural crops.
Procedure:
1. Prepare the following solutions;

a. 5% Hydrogen peroxide
b. 5% Iodine solution
c. 50 ppm Chlorine solution
d. 5 % of 70% ethyl alcohol
e. 5% acetic acid
f. Tapwater
2. Rinse/Apply each prepared solution in several pieces of kalamansi and beans.
3. Place the disinfected sample in a perforated plastic and store each sample
treatments at room and refrigerated temperature.
4. Observe the following parameters below every two days until senescence occur.
a. Color
b. Odor
c. Texture
d. Appearance
e. Weight
