Statement of Purpose

The purpose of presenting this statement is to justify my passion for studying full-time
Information Science and Technology. Reasons thereof are presented through (a) a brief
introduction of the self, (b) what I intend to achieve in my career, (c) reasons for studying
the MS in IS and (d) qualifications to study the program.

Professional g o a l s and career o b j e c t i v e

Participation in a Disaster Management program initiated by the collaborative

efforts of the Government of Andhra Pradesh with the Red Cross Society as part
of its program on Youth Advancement, I am intrinsically motivated to seek a career
in disaster management.

My career goal is to develop innovative applications and approaches for supervising

manmade disasters and identifying the nature and scope of disasters and their potential
impact on ecology. A set of sequential objectives are defined to reach the career goal.

➢ To augment my technical and technological skills and knowledge required to

practice innovative behaviour and develop advanced applications.
➢ To pursue a technical career with the National Disaster Management Authority
(NDMA), Government of India, and acquire absolute knowledge of the ground
realities of floods, droughts, cyclones, earthquakes and landslides
➢ To become the Executive Director of the NDMA, Government of India.

W h y MS in Information Science and Technology

While the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering helped the work
experiences taught me two essential lessons. First, a qualified engineer with a bachelor's
degree has limited opportunities of building a progressive professional career. Second,
the nature of work being purely commercial has little or no impact on my instincts, which
prompted me to build a professional career that contributes to society rather than
commercial establishments.
The inborn innovative behaviour prompted me to work on projects that contribute to the
betterment of the common people in society. Voluntary services on disaster management
(DM) directed me to the institutional website of NDMA and other essential academic
papers. I was surprised to find the operational drawbacks of disaster management in
India. Accordingly, to bring new technologies to the DM, I seek to acquire advanced skills
and knowledge in Big Data and Software analysis, Multicore Architectures Programming,
and Sequential Decision Problems.

Q u a l i f i c a t i o n s to study Information Science and Technology

Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in (Computer science & engineering) C.S.C , technical

skills in MS Office, C and Python basics are essential academic certification and
computing skills. A score of 314 on the GRE (Graduate Aptitude Test) and A score of 96
TOEFL(Test of English as a foreign language) qualifies me to study in an English-
speaking nation. The ability to gain deep insights into technology, innovative behaviour
and a strong desire to focus on a career that delivers sustainable outcomes are the
essential personal skill, traits and attitudes anticipated to help me academically progress.
