Q2: Decide whether the following sentences are run-on sentences or correct sentences: 10pts
1- Earnest Hemingway wrote about the last generation after the world war I.
2- People are very busy working they don't have time to study.
3- New York city is very cosmopolitan, there are people from many cultures and ethnic groups.
4- Because I didn't know English, I was worried about my future.
5- We said good-bye to our friends, I felt sad about leaving my homeland.

Q3: Join each pair of the following sentences using the given conjunctions in parenthesis: 10pts
1- The profit of the company declined. The company's sales increased last year. ( although )

Q4: Correct the mistakes in the following letter: 10pts

Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing to apply for the place of physical Education teacher at the All Saint's Girls' school in
Liverpool as advertising in the Herald of 24th May.
I am twenty-six year old and obtained a degree in sports Science at Liverpool University at 1991. I
am presently worked as a teaching assistant in the P.E department at Highfield Grammar School
in Manchester where I was for the last four years. Prior to this, I wasted two years as a swimming
coach in Middlesex at the Regent Leisure center.
I am interested extremely in the post available as I am eager to upgrade my present status from
teaching assistant to fully appointed P.E. teacher. I am patient and believe in encouraging all the
pupils to reach their full potential.
