INTRODUCTION
Pursuant to Proclamation Number 264, s. 2002, the month of September is declared as the National
Science Club Month which authorizes the Department of Education to implement plans and activities related
to the said event. This year’s theme, “Genescape: Priming Perspectives, Amplifying Advancements” seeks
to demonstrate the importance and relevance of Science to the future development of our society. More than
just a celebration, it recognizes the significance of Science in our daily lives and envisions 21 st century
learners to build a better nation with full understanding on the significant role of Science, Technology and
Innovation. This month-long celebration seeks to offer great range of events and activities that will motivate
students to engage in Science at home, in the classroom and anywhere they may go.

OBJECTIVES
The 2022 Science Month Celebration aims to:
a. Understand the importance of Science, technology and environment as vital areas in nation building
especially in the age of information and communications technology in the 21 st century;
b. Provide interactive strategies in learning delivery in the promotion and transfer of Science and
Technology to the grassroots; and
c. Complement, supplement and enrich formal Science education through curricular activities to
popularize Science, technology and environment among the masses through various Science
activities.

ACTIVITIES
Activities lined up to uphold this year’s celebration are as follows:
a. Science Trivia
b. Science Tiktokperiment
c. No Bag Challenge
d. Science Quiz Bowl
e. Spelling Bee
f. Adolescent Reproductive Health Symposium

The activities aimed to encourage students to express their creativity, motivate and develop self
confidence by recognizing their hard work, and most of all raise awareness about how Science and
Technology affects our lives and how they should always strive to attain scientific literacy especially in
this time of pandemic.
A. SCIENCE TRIVIA

In celebration of the National Science Month,

DepEd Tayo Surigao del Sur Division conducted a
Daily Science Trivia posted on their face book page.
Hence, Science teachers encouraged the learners
to participate and answer the trivia questions and
gave it as an assignment to the students. After
each trivia, the science teacher gives a short
discussion regarding the topic.
B. SCIENCE TIKTOKPERIMENT

With the advent of technology, teaching and learning Science

online becomes an emergent opportunity for teachers and students to
impart knowledge and learn at the same time. Students were tasked to
create a video presentation showing concepts in Science. They were given
the freedom to choose a topic they feel comfortable with or that they feel
would be beneficial to their audience. With this activity, they were able to
learn while being hands-on, which is a very important part of learning.
C. NO BAG DAY CHALLENGE

As students get exhausted after attending classes for the whole

week, the “NO BAG DAY CHALLENGE” allowed them to pause and pursue
their creativity by using reusable materials that served as their bag for a
particular day. They later explained their chosen bag and how using them
can reduce solid waste both at home and in the community. With this
initiative, the students also showed interest and excitement in going to
school, thereby increasing their attendance.
D. SCIENCE QUIZ BEE COMPETITION

The Science Quiz Bee was participated by students during the Science
Teachers’ instruction. Students were given questions in Easy, Average
and Difficult Level. The learners were evidently eager to participate as
the Quiz Bee gave a different approach to impart the lessons and it gave
them more opportunities to learn and gain retention of the lessons.
E. SPELLING BEE COMPETITION

The Spelling Bee was participated by students in the different year

levels. One student for each year level was declared the winner. It was
announced by Ms. Apple Jhelyn B. Pineda, Science Coordinator, and
awarded by the School Head, Mr. Rex B. Martinez, assisted by Mrs.
Manuelita L. Evangelio, Science teacher.
F. ADOLESCENT REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SYMPOSIUM

On September 30, 2022, TNHS held a program on Career

Guidance and OK sa DepEd depicting the effects of Illegal Drugs
usage. Adolescence is one of life’s complex life stages which is
accompanied by special reproductive health needs. Thus, the
Science Coordinator decided to include in the program a short talk
about Adolescent Reproductive Health with the TNHS School Nurse,
Mr. Noel B. Tiu as the speaker. The talk aims to enable the students
to make informed choices with regards to their reproductive health.
