My Takeaways from Doing the Midterm Problem Set

P What I Learned / Discovered After I Solved this Problem

No.
I initially found the question challenging, but I later realized it's a basic concept in reaction
1 which is Rax and Ray

In question 2, I apply two key concepts: vertical and horizontal reactions at the hinge and the
moments to determine the forces acting on the fbd
2

In question 3, I initially thought I needed to use summation of Fx and Fy to solve for tension.
3 However, I realized that I can directly use moments to determine the tension.
Based on the figure, I initially thought it was difficult, but it's actually just a basic concept in
solving forces.
4

The aspect that I find most challenging in item number 5 is determining whether the angle is with
5 respect to the x-axis or the y-axis.

6 I am pleased with number six as I was able to solve it solely through the use of moments
It is just a basic concept of moments but the trcky part here is you need to look first for the
7 perpendicular distance.
It‘s just a basic concept of moments but the tricky part here is you need to look first for the
8 perpendicular distance .
Free-body diagrams (FBDs) are truly essential. Once you manage to construct one correctly,
solving the problem becomes remarkably easier. This realization underscores the profound
9
importance of FBDs

It's just enjoyable because I still remember the basic concepts about friction that were taught to
10 us. Those fundamental principles are immensely helpful in providing accurate answers.
I had some difficulty in determining the forces initially. However, I realized that it's essential to
11 assign forces to each block to make it easier to comprehend.
I had the most difficulty here, and I was struggling to figure out what to do. While creating the
FBD for block A, I couldn't visualize it properly. But when I started working on the FBD for block B,
12 things became clearer. I realized that prioritizing block B was important to derive equations that
would be useful for solving the problem.

Solving this problem is straightforward as long as you create the correct FBD for each block.
After constructing the FBDs, you can proceed to calculate the summation of forces in the x and y
13
directions, which will lead you to find the force.

In question 14, I discovered that there's no need to consider point A. Point B alone can be
14 used to solve for P using basic concepts.
It's the same concept that our instructor emphasized during the discussion, so it's indeed
15 crucial to pay attention.
In this particular number, your analytical skills will be put to the test. Based on the figure, it
may initially seem straightforward, but there are equations to derive and additional processes
16 required for its solution

17 I almost forgot the basic formula for volume, but after seeing the problem, I remembered it all.
As I still remember from our integral calculus subject, our professor told us that we can compute
18 the volume by integrating the area.
