I. Introduction

The hand is one of the most symbolized parts of the human. It is often
used to depict skill, actions, and purpose. Through hands, we may learn, create
and accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies that you as a
learner is capable and empowered to successfully achieve the relevant
competencies and skills at your own pace and time. Your academic success lies
in your hands!
This module was design to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. It helps assess your
knowledge of the basic counting technique called fundamental counting principle.
This knowledge and skills will help you understand permutations of objects. As
you go through this lesson, keep in mind this important question: How does the
concept of permutation help in forming conclusions and in making wise
decisions? At the end of this lesson, the learners are expected to accomplish the
following objectives:

A. Define permutation
B. Simplify permutations
C. Solve problems involving permutation in real-life situation

II. Guide Card

Hello everyone! Welcome to another day of
learning experience.

Today we will be learning about Permutations.

Are you ready to learn this? Now, let’s begin.

Permutations (in general)-refers to the different possible arrangements of a set of

objects. The number of permutations of n objects taken r at a time is:
n!
P(n , r )=
( n−r ) !
,n≥r
Illustrative Example 1:

In how many ways can 5 people arrange themselves in a row for picture taking?

Solution 1: Solution 2: Using the Formula

n = 5, r =5
P (5,5) = 5·4·3·2·1 n!
P ( n , r )=
5! ( n−r )!
P (5,5) = 120 possible ways P ( 5 ,5 ) =
(5−5 ) !
5!
P(5 , 5)=
( 0) !
P (5,5) = 5·4·3·2·1/1 = 120

Remember: 0! = 1
Circular Permutation the different possible arrangements of objects in a circle. The
number of permutations, P, of n objects around a circle is given by
P= ( n−1 ) !

Illustrative Example 2:
2
In how many ways can 4 people be seated around a circular table?

Using the Formula:

P = ( n−1 ) !
P = ( 4−1 ) !
P = 3!
P = 3 ·2 · 1
P= 6
III. Activity Card 3

Did you enjoy the lesson? Let’s see if you have learned
something from our discussion. This activity will help you to
better understand our topic. I have provided series of activities
for you to enjoy while learning. Let’s do it!

Activity I. Guided Activity: 2 Truths and 1 Lie

Directions: Identify which are the 2 truths and 1 lie. Write only the
letters of the 2 truths and a lie on the space provided.

Truths: __, ___ Truths: __, ___

Activity 2. Independent Activity: Find Me!

1. In how many different ways can a bicycle be parked on the available

parking space?

2. In how many different ways can a car be parked on the available

parking space?
