In the beginning we fear how other
people will view us if we get out
there. It is a scary place to be. To
get a professional headshot and put
our face on our marketing can feel
weird. However, it is a necessary
evil.

We all have things that we don't like

about our appearance, but what
parents want to see is that we are
relatable, caring, and open.

Sharing your image is sharing your

brand. Don't hide behind a logo. In
the beginning, you are your logo.

So go ahead, get used to looking at

yourself, put your image on your
flyers, your website, and everywhere
else you can think of.

People don't hire you because of

your looks, they hire you because
they get to choose you.

TO GET STUDENTS
□ Word of mouth marketing. Tell all of your friends and family.
□ Put advertising on your car.
□ Call local schools and try to get on their Iist of approved tutors.
□ Join Networking groups
□ Take care of your current clients. Referrals could be your biggest source of new clients.
□ Offer a free assessment to your social media following and friends and family.
□ Offer a free consultation to your social media following and friends and family.
□ Hang up some signs like the realtors use. SuperCheap signs is a great sight for this.
□ Create flyers to put in Starbucks and gas stations.
□ Ask current clients to spread the word about what you do (Most of the time you don’t even have to ask,
they love spreading the word about a great tutor).
□ Get business cards and hand them out to interested people.
□ Become a sponsor for a little league game or soccer tournament.
□ Contact the local media stations and newspapers about how the pandemic changed the way you do
business.
□ Create a brochure and find places you can hand them out. Some ideas include - school guidance
counselors, restaurants, libraries (you need to ask first).
□ Get a table at a community-based event
□ Join your local Chamber of Commerce and participate in the monthly meetings.
□ Create coupons for silent auctions.
□ Send Christmas cards to current and past clients.
□ Hold a customer appreciation party and ask your clients to bring friends.
□ Listen and you will hear others talking about needing services you provide. Then find out more
information to determine if they are a right fit. When the time is right tell them what you do.
□ Make yourself available for speaking engagements. Think about the local schools and the library.
□ Put a coupon for a free assessment or consultation on the back of your business card.
□ Get involved in Social Events.
□ Volunteer in your community and meet people. Ask other volunteers what they do and they will
eventually ask you what you do. Have a natural conversation with them and share your passion about
tutoring online.

□ Learn search engine optimization and put rich keywords into all of your content
online.
□ E-mail a weekly newsletter to people who opt in. Let them know about content you are creating or tips
that will help their child the most.

□ Be a guest on a podcast that your ideal client listens to.
□ Start a podcast series using Anchor.

5 Mistakes Tutors
Make
Since 2012 I have been working
with tutors and noticed that
they make similar mistakes
when they are marketing.
What will make you stand out is
your empathy and your story.
#1 Share where they went to
school
Unless you went to Harvard, no
one cares what school you went
to. Parents want to know do you
like working with kids like theirs
and can you get results.
#2 Use stock photos
Stock photos can never tell your
story as well as your own photos.
Get a professional photographer
take pictures of you. This is an

#4 Share your tutoring approach
Unless you are trained in a highly sought
out program, people do not care about
your approach. They care more about the
results that you get.
#5 Copy other tutor's websites
I know in the beginning you have no idea
what to write and how to write it. It is so
much easier to look at other examples.
However, you don't know if what the other
tutor's are doing actually works. Join the

and makes you stand out amongst other
tutors.

It is important that people trust

care how long they have taught,
how many students they have
worked with, and what college
they went to. What parents really
care about is have you worked
with students like mine, do you
like working with them, and what
kind of results do you get.

and doing. What is their biggest
fear and what are their dreams.
When you know this, you will be
able to speak in a way that attracts
their attention. This is called

solution. When this happens a
parent is less likely to use your
price to determine if they want to
work with you and more likely to
hire you to work with their child.
