Method Statement for Testing &

Commissioning Of Foam System

Before commissioning the foam system the

following shall be ensured.

The system has been checked against the

approved installation drawings.
The pressure testing of the pipes are
completed.
The installation of foam bladder tank, Deluge
valve, Ratio Flow Controller, Isolation valves,
associated pipe works, and Controller Panel
completed.
The installations of foam / water open
sprinklers are completed.
The Termination to all devices (i.e. Pressure
Switch, Solenoid, etc…) is completed.
Cabling and interface connection to main fire
alarm panel is completed.
Make sure the entire above test / installation is
approved by consultant.
Check and confirm that deluge valve and
accessories are ready for putting the system in
service.
Confirm that the pressure control valve set to the
system required pressure.
Check that all sprinklers are free from
obstructions.
Confirm that check valves are installed at the
correct flow direction.

Commissioning Steps for Foam

System
Prior to Commissioning of the Foam Bladder
Tank confirm the following:

No fault signals exist on the Fire alarm

control panel.
Fill the tank with the required quantity of the
foam concentrate.

Commissioning of deluge valve

Following procedure shall be adopted for
commissioning of the deluge valve to set the
system live:

1. Confirm that the main line is flushed with

clean water and pressurized and all valves are
on their operating positions.
2. Confirm that the concentrate isolation valve to
the protected room is closed and test connection
isolation valve open.
3. Open valve to pressurize the diaphragm
chamber and the detection line system.
4. Slowly open the water control valve. Close the
main drain valve as soon as water discharges
from the drain connection. Observe that drain
valve have no flow.
5. Open the end line drain valve for the testing.
6. The deluge valve detects the pressure drop and
will activate the system.
7. The water supply pressure forces the centre valve
open permitting the water flow in to the bladder
tank and through the foam proportioner to
discharge water through the test & drain valve
fixed with foam discharge nozzle.
8. If the desired water flow is achieved, we can
now then add the foam concentrate by opening
valve.
9. Collect foam sample from test connection
and send to laboratory for testing.
10. Foam test report to be submitted to the
consultant for approval.
11. After the test is over shut off valve, flush the
pipes with clean water, drain the pipes, and reset
the DV.
12. Close the drain valve completely.

13. Fill the foam tank to the required level prior to

placing the system in service.

a) Interface with Fire Alarm System: When

the foam is discharged from the foam system, the
main fire alarm system will be activated after 60
second.

b) Manual release testing.

c) Placing the system in the service.

d) Reset the deluge valve after the test as

below.

Close the diaphragm chamber supply valve of

the Deluge.
Close the water control valve.
Open the drain valves. Leave the drain
valves open.
Operate the manual release station to make sure
all water is drained from the diaphragm chamber
before closing.
Recheck the end line drain valve cleaned
properly.
Open the Diaphragm chamber supply control
valve and allow time for full pressure to build up
in the diaphragm chamber, resetting the Deluge
valve.
Slowly open the water control valve. Close the
main drain valve as soon as water discharges
from the drain connection.
Observe that drain valve have no flow.
Now DV valve is reset, close drain valve and
open water control valve.
Open the concentrate isolation valve and
manually reset hydraulic concentrate control
valve to closed position.
DV is back in service

HSE Requirements:

Work will commence as per safety

regulations laid down in the contract
specification and project safety plan. Safety
gears shall be used. All personal protective
equipment shall be used as appropriate
according to the nature of the job. For

failure ensuring the good illumination of the
working area to aid evacuation if necessary.
Adequate lighting shall be provided to ensure
the good illumination on the working area.
Always maintain cleanliness in work areas.
Housekeeping shall be of good standard and all
cut pieces and debris shall be removed by the end
of workday.
Ensure that all lifting operations are carried out
as per approved procedures and safety
regulations.
