Hello, good morning my name is Sandra and today I am taking this exam because

I’ve been studying English for the last years and it's quite important for my CV to
be able to prove tha1 I master the language at a B1 level, as most job offers
require. The topic l've"been given is Education

I've divided my monologue into three main parts. First, I'm going to talk about
the differences between education now and in the past. Next, I will focus on the
subjects I think should be taught in today's school system, and I will finish talking
aboutb new technologies and if I think computers will replace books.

First of all, 1 would like to start talking about how diferent school is nowadays
from the time my parents were studying. According to them, very liltle is the
same now . For example, the dress code. lt is completely different for both
students and teachers . It used to be more formal in the past, women had to wear
skirts and blouses and men had to wear shirts and ties. No jeans or casual clothes
were allowed. For students, and even though there are still uniforms in some
schools, many of them can wear the clothes they want.
Discipline was certainly different, students used to show more respect to the
teachers and called them Ms or Mr, never by their first name. Also prívate schools
are more accessible now than they were in the past and there are more subjects to
choose from. This leads to my next point.

Even though we have more choice nowadays, in my opinion, subjects only

focus on the academic education of the students and forget about our emotional
education, which in my view is extremely important too. 1 strongly believe
that we should learn about mental health, how to manage stress or talk about our
feelings, and even some basic first aíd or survival knowledge can help us be more
confident. For higher levels, personal finance too, as many of us have to deal wíth
bills as soon as we leave school, and we really have no idea of how to do it.

Let's now take a look at technologies and how they changed the classroom. At
present, students always have their phones on them, receíve and send their
homework via the internet, or even attend classes onlíne. Almost everything is
done on the computer and 1 think there are some benefits, but also some
disadvantages. Some of the advantages are that we can find the information faster
and we have more resources available so we can experiment and decide what
works best for us. On the other hand it is not very healthy to spend so much
time in front of the screen, and reading a whole book can be extremely tiring for
our eyes.

To sum up, 1 would like to say that schools are really different now, and apart
from clothing and behavior. technologies made a huge difference, and even if
computers are widely used, there are many people who still prefer to read a paper
book.
