1. Based on the discussion how do you define mental health? How does this issue
affect you as a teenager?

Answer: Mental health refers to a person's emotional, psychological, and social well-
being, and it encompasses a range of factors that influence how individuals think, feel,
and act. It includes emotional stability, the ability to manage stress, maintain healthy
relationships, work productively, and make sound decisions.
As a teenager, maintaining a sane and sound mind is difficult amid different factors in
my life. Maintaining the balance with different roles I have at home, school, among
peers, and dealing with our family business led me to be drained. The support I have
from the people from the different sectors in my life empowers me and continually
give me satisfaction and inspiration.

2. How would you be able to tell if someone is experiencing mental health problem
or mental illness?

Answer: Recognizing if someone is experiencing a mental health problem or mental

illness can be challenging because symptoms and signs can vary widely depending on
the individual and the specific condition. However, there are common indicators and
changes in behavior, emotions, and thoughts that may suggest a person is struggling
with their mental health. Keep in mind that these signs alone do not necessarily
confirm a mental health problem, but they may warrant further attention or support.
Here are some signs to watch for:

A. Changes in Mood:
- Persistent sadness, hopelessness, or feeling overwhelmed.
- Frequent mood swings or extreme mood changes.
- Increased irritability, anger, or agitation.

B. Social Withdrawal:
- Avoiding social interactions or isolating themselves from friends and family.
- Losing interest in activities they once enjoyed.

C. Changes in Behavior:
- Significant changes in sleep patterns (insomnia or oversleeping).
- Changes in appetite or eating habits (significant weight gain or loss).
- Decreased energy or chronic fatigue.
- Engaging in risky behaviors, self-harm, or substance abuse.

D. Cognitive Changes:
- Difficulty

1. Listen and Offer a Non-Judgmental Ear:

- One of the most important ways to help is to listen attentively when the person
wants to talk. Encourage them to express their feelings and thoughts without
judgment. Sometimes, people just need someone to vent to or share their experiences
with.

2. Educate Yourself About Mental Health:

- Take the time to learn about the specific mental health condition the person is
facing. Understanding the condition and its symptoms can help you offer more
informed and empathetic support. Knowledge can also reduce stigma and
misconceptions.
3. Offer Your Presence and Support:
- Let the person know that you are there for them. Offer your physical presence,
whether through spending time together or simply being available when they need
you. Offer to accompany them to appointments or support groups if they are
comfortable with it.

4. Encourage Professional Help:

- Encourage the person to seek professional help if they haven't already. Mental
health professionals, such as therapists, counselors, or psychiatrists, can provide
effective treatment and support. Offer to help them find a suitable mental health
provider and even accompany them to appointments if needed.

5. Be Patient and Understanding:

- Mental health challenges can be unpredictable, and recovery is often a gradual
process. Be patient with the person and avoid pressuring them to "get better" quickly.
Understand that there may be setbacks along the way, and continue to offer your
support and understanding.

Remember that while you can be a valuable source of support, you are not a
replacement for professional mental health treatment. If someone is in immediate
danger or experiencing a mental health crisis, don't hesitate to contact emergency
services or a crisis helpline for guidance. Additionally, taking care of your own
mental health and seeking support from friends, family, or professionals is crucial
when you are supporting someone with mental health challenges, as it can be
emotionally demanding.

What are the common issues that cause mental problems to teenagers like you?

Answer: The majority of adolescents, including myself, endure a variety of obstacles

and stresses that lead to the emergence of mental health issues. In my life, I play
several roles. As a freshman in college, I'm still getting used to everything. I'm still
struggling to keep up with the demands of academics and extracurricular activities. In
engaging with my peers on college, I also felt a surge of anxiousness and exhilaration.
Because of the shifts in college life, I've found myself reeled from the psychological,
environmental, and academic aspects of my mental health. At times, I am anxious and
under pressure.

I can stay up with the help and concern of my supportive parents and my peers. They
assist me to stay anchored, think positively, and be productive.
