BRIGHTPATH NARRATIVE YEAR 4 MODERATION – OLIVIA PATERSON AND MICHELLE BROADBENT

STUDENT SAMPLE 1: MEETS YEAR LEVEL EXPECTATIONS (JAMES EMERY)

What is your proposed grade of student work prior to moderation? C

How does this relate to the grade awarded to the student work by the other assessor? Michelle
agreed that James should receive a C grade and her student sample was similar, with the structure and
length required at Year 4.

What adjustment, if any, did you make to your proposed grade? Grade was not changed.

Reflection:
The expectations of a C student’s work are consistent across Year 4.

STUDENT SAMPLE 2: ABOVE YEAR LEVEL EXPECTATIONS ( ASHLEIGH GIRGENTI)

What is your proposed grade of student work prior to moderation? A

How does this relate to the grade awarded to the student work by the other assessor? Michelle
agreed that Ashleigh should receive an A grade as she was working above Year 4 level, writing extensive
descriptive paragraphs and using many narrative language features to create interest for her readers.

What adjustment, if any, did you make to your proposed grade? Grade was not changed.

Reflection:
Upon looking at my Above Level sample, comparing it to Michelle’s student and the criteria on Brightpath, we are
confident that we have the same expectations for an A and B grade.

YEAR LEVEL EXPECTATIONS (NOAH SAVERIMUTTO)

What is your proposed grade of student work prior to moderation? D

How does this relate to the grade awarded to the student work by the other assessor? Michelle
agreed that Noah should receive a D grade for his Brightpath narrative. We also compared work samples
from the Brightpath website, which were consistent with Noah’s work.

What adjustment, if any, did you make to your proposed grade? The grade was not changed.

Reflection: Michelle and I have consistent expectations of the standard for a student below the Year 4
standard of narrative writing.
