Discrete Structures was initially very difficult for the student compared to their previous mathematics courses, which focused on calculations and formulas rather than logic. However, the student began to enjoy the course more over time since it allows problems to be solved through different logical approaches rather than memorizing formulas. The student found using rules of inference to solve predicates most interesting since it reflects real-life scenarios. Nested quantifiers were the least interesting topic for the student, not because of difficulty but because some examples did not seem logical. The student wants to improve their logical skills through practice, as practice is needed to strengthen areas of weakness.

A SHORT NOTE ON MY EXPERIENCE IN DISCRETE STRUCTURES (DS):
Discrete Structures basically comes under the
domain of Mathematics but we can call it as logical Mathematics as it’s totally based on logics and statements. At the beginning of the course I have found it comparatively much difficult because from the 1st standard till my intermediate I have studied basic mathematics which was totally based on formulas and calculations but this (Discrete Structures) was totally new for me as it was clearly very much different from what I have studied before but with the each passing day I began to like it as it does not obliged us to follow the same pattern, remembering same formula and etc. The first and foremost thing I have liked about this course is that it allows us to solve a particular problem by different approaches but it should be logically correct. The topic which I have found most interesting is solving predicates by using rules of inference as it includes our daily life scenarios, for example(if we consider first predicate as “if its Sunday then its holiday” and second predicate as “it’s not holiday” and if we assume that the first predicate is true then a person with no knowledge of mathematics can easily conclude the result as “it’s not Sunday” and furthermore we also knew what we have to prove so we just have to think hard ,use our wit and just prove it. The topic which has my least interest is nested quantifier it’s not because that I felt it difficult, it is because that some examples I myself thought that it does not make much sense that’s why I have secured less in these questions in my midterm also but I am looking forward to make myself more logically strong by practicing these questions where I lack the most. Yes, I am the student who wants to learn but could not; it’s because that we were being made theoretically strong by our previous educational institutions but not logically. There is no limit for improving, one can improve just by doing more and more practice as it’s said that “Practice makes a man perfect”. Moreover its appreciable that practice problems are being provided to us to solve our further doubts but I think it will take time because we are new to this course but sooner or later we will ace it.My request to you is that at least make us solve the problems in the class based on the topics which seems most difficult to everyone after reading everyone’s experience in this course.
