1.0 INTRODCUTION

Stainless steel bulk storage drum is used to store bulk ointment/cream till the
batch is released for filling. In order to exxclede possibility of cross
contamination or contamination with foreign particles, it is imperative to clean
this drum as per the prescribed cleaning procedures.

2.0 CLEANING PROCEDURE

2.1 Wipe all waxy contetns from the drum with the help of a lint free clean
cotton cloth.

2.2 a) Clean the entire exterior and the interior of the drum with steam for
approximately 10 minutes.

b) Clean the drum with the help of hot water –Teepol ( 0.1%) mixture
( approximately 700C)

c) Rinse with DM water at lease thrice to remove the traces of


detergent.

d) Finally rinse with distilled water.

e) Ensure absence of detergent by checking the ph of rinse water


(distilled)

f) Dry the interior and exterior surfaces with line free cloth.

g) Sanitize with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol.

h) Affix a appropriate cleaning Alcohol.

3.0 HARD TO CLEAN AREAS

Bottom groove, circular groove on the lid of the drum and grooves on the clamp
of the top lid are the areas that are hard to clean. Therefore proper care must be
taken to clean the listed areas as per the following procedure:

i) Clean these areas with the help of steam.

ii) Clean the areas with hot water –Teepol (0.1%) mixture with the
help of a nylon brush to remove all accumulates.

iii) Wash repeatedly with DM water to remove all traces of detergent.

iv) Finally rinse with fresh distilled water.

v) Check the pH of rinse water (distilled water) to ensure absence of


detergent.

vi) Wipe the drum dry with the help of a clean lint free cotton cloth.

vii) Sanitize with the help of 70% Isopropyl Alcohol.

viii) Affix a suitable label to indicate cleanliness of the drum.
