approach to service-learning. You will identify, plan, and carry out solutions in order to achieve social
awareness and effect change in your host school for this final Teaching Experience.

Teaching Experience, Year 4, has been allocated 8 weeks of school-based WIL. This will be divided into

commitment to creating social change.

• A social action project is a planned set of activities carried out over a period of time in order
to achieve social awareness and effect change.
• A school-based, social action project can be around any relevant environmental, health,
academic or social issue and is designed to create awareness and educate learners, teachers,
parents and the school community around the specific issue.
• A school-based, social action project is a multi-step process that involves students identifying
an issue they care about, that is relevant to their school context, researching the issue and
exploring effective ways of creating awareness and educating others.
• You are required to work under the supervision and guidance of a school representative (this
can be anyone in the school who is able to supervise you in this project).

school or school community through the social action project.
• Design a suitable project proposal that must be signed off by a school representative in TE

Between TE Block 1 & 2:

• Plan all aspects of the social action project before implementing it in your school in TE Block

start of TE Block 2, so as not to take away time and focus from these final Teaching
Experience Weeks in school.

During TE Block 2:

• Implement the social action project in your school.

• Note: The implementation of the social action project should not take away from your
teaching time in the classroom.
