TOURNAMENT GUIDE

THE 16th IIT BOMBAY DEBATE


Please read the complete document below to make sure there are no logistical hiccups
during the competition. You are welcome to contact anyone on OC, whose contact
information is supplied below and who is available on call, if you have any questions or
problems. I hope you all have a fantastic time during the competition!

Important Guidelines:

​ ● We request all participants availing accommodation to carry their


own blankets, towels. Kindly note that these can’t be provided on
request if you fail to carry them due to resource constraints on the
part of the organizing team.
​ ● Possession or consumption of alcohol, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vapes, drugs,
marijuana etc. is NOT allowed inside institute premises. Caught doing so will
result in immediate expulsion from the tournament and the college premises. The
tournament organizers will not be responsible for any actions that the institution
decides to take against anyone who is found violating these rules.
​ ● All the participants are required to carry an official government ID with them
at all times and should produce one whenever asked for by the orgcomm.
Institutional Participants must carry their college IDs along with them.
​ ● We are committed to run the tournament on the fixed schedule and would
appreciate participants’ contribution in doing so by reaching designated locations
on time, being available for contact and filling feedback to proceed with rounds.
Teams late to roll call will be dropped from the tabs to ensure that rounds start
on time.
​ ● There are no restrictions on dress code on the campus.
​ ● Refer to the travel guides to navigate from airport/railway stations to the
accommodation and to the campus.
​ ● Refer to the food guide to find food options in and around campus and the
accommodation.

Structure of the Tournament:

​ ● We will be having 5 in-rounds (one of the rounds will be closed)


​ ● Breaks will be to pre-quarterfinals (24 teams)
​ ● Novice breaks will be to semifinals (8 teams)

​ ● Feedbacks will be filled online - using your private URL


​ ● The following feedbacks have to be filled:
​ ○ Speaker on Chair (if chair gets rolled, then speaker on whoever gives
OA)
​ ○ Chair on Panelist and trainees
​ ○ Panelist on Chair
​ ● We are a very huge tournament and in order to run effectively and on time, we
will need everyone to fill feedback timely!

Check-in Policy

​ ● We will drop teams that are not present in the roll call, and we will proceed
without them. Check-ins via Private URL need to be done before rounds on day 1,
day 2 and day 3.
​ ● Make sure you join the participant whatsapp groups to get real-time updates
on the roll call and to update us on your status

​ ● Make sure you leave the accommodation well in time keeping in mind the time
taken to find an auto-rickshaw/cab(varies greatly) and travel to the LHC(5-10
minutes walk)

Iron person policy

● Teams can iron-person a maximum of 1 in-round in the tournament to be eligible for


breaks

Dissent policy for Adjes

● In the specific instance of dissent, if the chair is in the minority, a panelist from the
majority (chosen by the chair) assumes the role of chair for the particular round. Before
starting their oral adjudication, the panel is required to notify the Org Comm if this
occurs.

Break eligibility for Adjes

● Adjudicators will be eligible for breaks on adjudicating at least 4 rounds out of the 5
