Academic Achievement Write

In September of 2022, I had started IB Geography 11 with Mr. Costopoulus in his room, I had
taken this class due previous year students telling me that it is super fun and interesting. I also
took Geography as I have a strive to learn about how the economy works and current events
happening around in the world. I had gotten a 7 (which is 100% converted to BC curriculum) on
my first test and was proud of it. I had studied countless hours and did lots of revision, this test
grade proved that hard work pays of well and to always strive for the best. My test scores last
year consisted of two 7s and two 6s. the two 6s really did set me back but I quickly got back on
my feet and studied harder for the next test. In April, we had started our internal assessment
which would be included in our predicted grade in January 2024 and the IA weighs around 20%
for our final mark. Although, I had procrastinated the IA to the due date for the rough draft
which was in June of 2023. In return, my draft was uncompleted and was bad. Mr. Gillies, which
was my teacher for this year interviewed all our class to make improvements in our IA. I was
interviewed in September and was told me restart my graphs and redo my Spearman’s Rank
Correlation. Moreover, I procrastinated this assignment as well and had to cram the IA in one
week. In my opinion, the turnout for this was pretty good as I felt like IA was good when I had
handed it in into Turnitin (which is used to turn in IB assignments). Furthermore, getting this
outstanding grade has taught me that I can achieve anything I can put my mind to, and that
hard work and dedication can result in outstanding grades and anything else you want desire.
From this assignment, I had learned how to successfully use Excel as I constantly had to make
graphs and analyze data, using Excel for those tasks was good as the software had a lot of
features regarding analyzing data. I believe that Excel is also a transferable skill because it will be
useful in my career path as I will need to make bookings for all the patients and keep track of all
the exercises they are doing. During the course, I learned how to effectively study for tests by
using study tactics such as active recall and flashcards, this skill is also transferable as active
recalling and knowing how to properly study will be useful for me in university and other
classes. Getting the 7 in IB Geography has taught me that humans have the will power to
achieve anything they put their mind to, I also learned that I can achieve anything with just a
little push on the back and some motivation. I believe that using this thought process that I
learned from this event will help me with my other classes and just long-term and short-term
goals. I believe that the skills I learned from this achievement will be effective for my future
plans of pursuing Kinesiology in university as now I know how to properly study for
memorization-based classes and using Excel for more practical and mathematical classes. With
the skills I have learned from this event, it will benefit me in my future goals as described above.
