Function description

General
The Scania clutch control system is hydraulic
and self-adjusting. It consists of two main
components, a compressed-air fed master
cylinder (servomaster) and a push-type slave
cylinder.
This booklet describes the changes that have
taken place. Earlier service literature applies in
other respects.

Slave cylinder
The slave cylinder is a push-type and is mounted
on the outside of the clutch housing. The slave
cylinder pushrod is connected to the clutch lever.
The connection between the pushrod and lever
comprises a ball on the end of the pushrod and a
crown-shaped bowl placed on the lever which
grips the ball.
Slave cylinder
When the slave cylinder is pressurised by the
master cylinder, the pushrod is pushed forward,
the lever is activated and the clutch diaphragm
spring is pulled back resulting in declutching.

Servomaster
While the slave cylinder has been located
outside the clutch, the servomaster has been
changed and it has a slightly shorter travel to suit
the new slave cylinder.

Release bearing
The external slave cylinder is used together with
a pull-type release bearing. Pull-type means that
declutching takes place by pulling back the
release bearing.
The movement from the slave cylinder pushrod
to the release bearing is transferred via a lever.
This lever is mounted on a holder in the clutch
housing. The inner end of the lever is in the
shape of a fork which actuates the release
bearing.

Renewing the servomaster

Renewal
For information on how to renew the
servomaster, refer to Scania Workshop Manual,
Main Group 04

IMPORTANT! When renewing the

servomaster, check that it is the new model. If
the old model is used along with the external
slave cylinder, this will damage the equipment.

Renewing the release

bearing

Removal
1 Open the latch spring.
2 Press in the release bearing against the
diaphragm spring using a crowbar until a
click is heard and the release bearing comes
free.
3 Remove the gearbox according to the
instructions in the service literature for
05:00 -1.
4 Remove the release bearing by detaching
the lever.

Fitting
1 Lock the latch spring.
2 Press in the release bearing against the
diaphragm spring using a crowbar until a
