The product we selected from ITW’s customer-facing website is the “cordless nailer”,
which was a patented, award-winning invention by the company. The Google Adword phrase
that we chose is “cordless nail gun”, which is what cordless nailers are now commonly referred
as.
I selected the phrase “cordless nail gun” because Illinois Tool Works was the pioneer for
this type of construction equipment. They were the first company to sell said equipment,
meaning that they would have likely established strong customer relationships by having no
competition. Also, their history in the field means that customers may refer to them as the best.
Finally, their status as the pioneers of this product would likely result in their name appearing
first in searches for nail guns.
The search using the Google AdWord phrase “cordless nail gun” was not successful in
generating links or references to Illinois Tool Works specifically, meaning that potential
customers will not be driven toward their website. However, it was successful in bringing up
cordless nail guns manufactured by ITW’s competitors and rival distributers. Therefore, the
phrase was far too generic, which signifies the influx of competitors in the cordless nail gun
segment.

3.1(a) The attribute that needs to be added to correctly reference English as the valid
language for the Accessible University Website is to add “lang=‘en’” after <html. The
new html tag that references English as the valid language is <html lang=“en”>
3.1(b) The POUR principle that addresses language issues is “Understandable”. This
principle appropriately addresses language issues because a website that is only available in one
language is difficult for an individual to understand if they learned another language.
3.2(b) The POUR principle that addresses visual issues relating to contrast and visual
acuity is “Perceivable”. This principle appropriately addresses contrast and visual acuity issues
because individuals with poor eyesight cannot perceive the differing colors from the background
and the text.
3.3(b) The POUR principle that addresses the lack of “Alt Text” in Accessible University’s
website is “Perceivable”. “Alt Text” improves the accessibility of AU’s website because it allows
individuals to receive the information presented in images that they cannot read.
