Description

Renovate my bedroom and bathroom to create a visitors’ suites for me, or may be my grandma during his
eye surgery recovery.

Background and Objectives

This year I left home and went off to college, living on my own for the first time in my life. I´m having a
great apartment and a good part-time job, and i will graduate in a few months. I learned last week that
your employer will promote me to a new, full-time position after graduation. Mine parents are thrilled
because this means I can move on with my life as an independent adult.

A few days after telling them about my promotion, I get an email asking for my help with a project. Since
they no longer expect me to live at home, they plan to turn my bedroom and bathroom into a guest suite
for visitors. I would be welcome to visit, of course, but they wouldn’t expect me to stay for more than a
couple of weeks at a time, (I don’t plan that either).

Knowing I have taken a project management class, they want my help defining the scope of the project.
I´m familiar with my home and its features, so what needs to change to make this work? They want a
document to share with potential contractors who can then give them a bid for completing the work.

By the way, they also tell me that Grandma isn’t doing well. There's a chance she’ll need to move in with
them while she recovers from eye surgery, so the guest room needs to meet her needs as well. She
doesn’t get around as well as she used to.

Transforming this room will give my mom peace and calm to take care my grandma and having a place to
received his sister that lives abroad. That’s will make her happy.

Scope

In Scope:
• Creating a plan with my parents on their vision for the bedroom and bathroom
• Redesign the color pallet and decorations
• New lighting design and tiles for the bathroom floor.
• Eliminated bathtub
• New and mirror

Out of Scope:

• Changing Plumbing
• Replacing Furniture.
• Replacing wc
• Replace counter sink top.

Constraints

The renovation has to be complete before the eye surgery of grandma, is August and
Thanksgiving will be coming, we are planning to spend together the holidays. Doctor says they
can postpone the surgery until September 15th, this renovation has to be complete in 3 weeks
top.

Concerns, Risks, Issues

Some concerns that I have that I cannot supervise the process, and my parents do not know anything
about renovations. The contractors can be delayed and grandma need surgery and I Bought in sale
tickets back home on thanksgiving. I don’t have any renovations knowledge but I spend last summer
with covid watching home removals reality shows. Hope that can works for something.
