 SEMI-FORMAL

MẪU 1:

Dear Jennie. ,

As you know,we will have a meeting at 8 am next Monday. I am writing to inform you about some
changes about our plan.

First of all, I sincerely (thật lòng) apologize for this sudden change. Yesterday, I had an accident and my
leg was seriously injured, so currently I am receiving treatment at the hospital. I’m afraid I won’t be able
to join the meeting we’ve arranged.

However, the doctor said me that I would not be able (không thể) to leave the hospital until next
Wednesday. I plan to go back to work the next day. Therefore, I propose (đề xuất) a meeting at 3 pm
next Thursday which would be the 27th of July. Could we have a meeting at ABC restaurant near my
office?

I hope you can join that meeting.

Yours truly,

Anna

MẪU 2:

Dear Jennie,

Hope that you are in the best of health and spirit. According to our plan, we have arranged a meeting on
17th of July to discuss about a new projet. Unfortunately, I am writing this letter to let you know that I
have to change the arrangement.

In the first place, I am sorry that I could not atttend the meeting because of my professional
responsibility (trách nhiệm cv cá nhân). I have to take a business trip to Thai Lan which will start on the
12th of July and last about the whole week. There was some trouble happening in our company located
in Thailand, which worries me a lot. I would be very grateful if you could understand my situation.
Anyway, I will meet you at your company after I return from my office trip – at 10am, 20 th July. I will call
you before my arrival.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Anna

MẪU 3:

Dear Jennie,

I hope that you are in the best of your health and spirit. Do you remember our meeting next Monday? I
regret to say that I would not be able to meet you as promised because of my busy schedule and hope
that you could understand my situation.

I am so sorry that my company has an urgent meeting in Hanoi for a week so I will have a business trip
tomorrow. Now that this meeting extremely affects my career, I could not let pass (bỏ lỡ) thiss
opportunity. This is why I am compelled (phải, bắt buộc) to cancel our meeting.

However, I would like to make a new meeting on 4th August in the Manwah restaurant in order to (để
mà) discuss our business plan.

Could we meet at 7p.m at this place? I hope you could arrange your schedule. Moreover, please call me
if you have any trouble finding the location.

Yours sincerely,

Anna
LESSON 23
1. For the past seven days, you were late for work due to some unavoidable issues at home.

Write a letter to your manager explaining why you were late for work for several days. In your
letter,

 explain why you were late for the last seven days
 apologize for the delay
 assure your manager that you will be on time from now on
 FORMAL LETTER

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to explain why I was late to the office for the last week. First of all, I am so
sorry that I have failed to show up at work (=absent) on time during these past few days.

Last week, my older sister had an accident and her leg was broken. I needed to take care of her
because my parents are living far from us. It was a very hard time for me to maintain the work-life
balance when I had to travel /go back and forth to the hospital in recent days.

I know that it is not an acceptable behaviour(n:hành vi) from a responsible employee, so I apologize
for this inconvenience. This Sunday, my mother will come here and she will look after my sister.
Therefore, I assure that I would be in the office on time from now on. I hope that you could
understand my situation.

Yours faithfully,

Anna Lucas

would like to do some voluntary/unpaid work at the museum.

Write a letter to the museum director to apply for the voluntary/unpaid work. In your letter,

• explain why you want to do voluntary/unpaid work at the museum

• describe some skills and qualities you have that would be useful

• give details of when you would be available for work

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I am keen on the part-time voluntary job which found from a
local newspaper yesterday.

I would like to do voluntary work at your museum because it is a great way for me to learn about the art
and history of my country more directly. Besides, I have a good opportunity to improve skills which helps
me have a better career in the future.

Regarding my skills and qualifications, I am good at some computer skills, and I also have easygoing and
hard-working personalities. Moreover, I have excellent communication skills which would be useful for
me to get along with the visitors to your museum. I worked(ko dùng have worked:vì bây jo ko còn làm
nữa) as a part-time at grocery store when I studied at University, so I would have a lot of experience
about dealing with different kinds of people.

I would be available to work every day from 4p.m to 8p.m except on Sundays. I am waiting for your reply
and I hope that you agree with my volunteer work.

Yours faithfully,

Anna Lucas
