GRADE 11- UNIT 3: TO-INFINITIVES AFTER NOUNS / ADJECTIVES

I. Noun + to verb
1. Structure:
Noun + to V
a)  S + V + O
Noun + to V
b)  S +V
Chúng ta dùng Noun trừu tượng + to V để nói về những hành động mà chúng có liên quan
Ex 1: She showed no willingness to help. (Cô ấy không tỏ ra có thiện ý giúp đỡ.)
S V O (N+ to V)
Ex 2: His dream to become a doctor comes true. (Ước mơ trở thành bác sĩ của anh ấy đã trở thành hiện
thực.) S (Noun + to V) V
Ex 3: I am impressed by her ambition to be a successful woman.
S V O (Noun +to V)
(Tôi bị ấn tượng bởi hoài bão trở thành một người phụ nữ thành đạt của cô ấy)

II. Adjective + to verb


1. Structure 1 : Ai đó cảm thấy thế nào khi làm gì
N / Pronoun + linking verb + adj + to V
Ex 1: Linda seemed happy to see her old friends. (Linda có vẻ vui khi gặp những người bạn cũ)
Ex 2: I am proud to announce the winner. (Tôi thấy vinh dự khi công bố người thắng cuộc)
Ex 3: I am amazed to hear about the birth of her baby (Tôi ngạc nhiên khi biết tin cô ấy sinh bé)
2. Sructure 2 : ai đó cảm thấy như thế nào khi làm gì
It + linking verb + adj + (for sb) + to V
Ex: It is interesting for us to work with Mary (Chúng tôi cảm thấy thú vị khi làm việc với Mary)
Ex: It looked impossible for her to finish on time. (Có vẻ cô ấy không thể hoàn thành đúng giờ.)
It is difficult to answer such questions. (Thật khó để trả lời những câu hỏi như vậy.)
3. Structure 3 : ai đó thật thế nào khi làm gì (dùng để đưa ra bình luận hay nhận xét một người
nào đó)
It + linking verb + adj + of sb + to V
Ex: It's kind of Nancy to support Laura. (Nancy thật là tốt bụng khi hỗ trợ Laura.)
Ex: It's impolite of him to shout at her. (Anh ta thật mất lịch sự khi hét vào mặt cô ấy.)
It's nice of Jane to help her mother cook a meal. (Jane thật tốt bụng khi giúp mẹ cô ấy nấu ăn.)
III. Rewrite the sentences, using the to-infinitive after adjectives/ nouns and beginning with the
words given:
1. All of us want to visit the Citadel. It’s interesting.
→ It’s interesting
2. Don’t bring your umbrella with you. It’s unnecessary.
→ It’s unnecessary
3. Don’t expect that everybody will understand you. It’s unreasonable.

5. Everyone can learn some simple sentences in English such as How are you? Or Thank you. It’s easy.
