Discovery Health has identified a significant increase in the incidence of measles in its claim data. This
confirms the data emerging from the Gauteng Department of Health that announced an Emergency Measles
Outbreak Campaign from 15th May to 30th june 2017 to address what it has identified as an outbreak of the
disease.
Health professional teams from the department will be visiting creches and schools to immunise all
children from 6 months to 15 years with 1 dose of measles vaccine. Event if a child has had all their vaccines,
it’s important that they be vaccinated again as part of this outbreak management.
“The outbreak is occuring not because the vaccines used previously failed, but rather because not
everyone was vaccined, leaving the rest of the community vulnerable. Measles is a serious and highly
contagious disease. It can cause severe complications including blindness, brain damage, pneumonia and even
death. The disease can affect both children and adults, but the illness can also be effectively prevented through
vaccination. It is important for people to be aware of the vaccine schedules and to adhere to these,” Dr. Roshini
Moodley-Naidoo, Head of Risk Management and Quality Care at Discovery Health, explained.

HABIBIE
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie, h., FREng (born in Parepare, South Sulawesi, on June 25,
1936; age 79) was the third President of Indonesia. He replaced Soeharto who resigned from the Presidency on
May 21, 1998. His position was replaced by Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) who was elected President on
October 20, 1999 by the ASSEMBLY election results 1999. With shake for 2 months and 7 days as Vice
President, and 1 year and 5 months as President, Habibie was Vice President and also the President of Indonesia
with the shortest term. At this time his name is immortalised as the name of one of the universities in I ndonesia,
replacing the name of the State University of Indonesia.
Habibie was the fourth of eight children, couples Alwi Abdul Jalil Habibie and R.a. Tuti Marini
Puspowardojo. His father’s profession as an expert of agriculture comes from Gorontalo ethnic Bugis descent
and have, while his mother’s surname. R.a. Tuti Marini Puspowardojo is the son of an eye specialist in Yogya,
and his father was named Puspowardjojo served as the owner of the school.
B.j. Habibie is married to Hasri Ainun Besari on 12 May 1962, with whom he had two sons, namely
Ilham Akbar Habibie and Thareq Habibie Kemal.
He had learned at the SMAK Dago. He studied mechanical engineering at the University of Indonesia,
Bandung (Bandung Institute of technology) in 1954. In 1955-1965 he went on to study engineering, specializing
in aircraft construction, RWTH Aachen, Western Germany, received his diploma degree ingenieur in 1960 and a
doctorate in 1965, ingenieur with summa cum laude.
Habibie has previously worked at Messerschmitt–Bölkow–Blohm, an airline company based in
Hamburg, Germany, thus reaching the peak of his career as a Vice President of technology. In 1973, he returned
to Indonesia at the request of former President Soeharto.
Habibie met Helmut Kohl in Germany.
He then served as Minister of research and technology since 1978 to March 1998. Before serving as the
President (May 21, 1998-October 20, 1999), was Vice President BJ Habibie (14 March 1998 – 21 May 1998) in
the seventh development cabinet under President Suharto. He was appointed Chairman of KADIN (Indonesia
Muslim Intellectuals), during his tenure as Minister. Presidency Inauguration of President B.J. Habibie on May
21, 1998 Official photos and Ainun Habibie in 1998.
Habibie inherited the chaotic state of conditions in post Suharto’s resignation breaking loose on the new
order era, giving rise to rampant riots and disintegerasi almost the entire territory of Indonesia. Soon after
acquiring the powers of President Habibie soon formed a Cabinet. One of the tasks is the importance of the back
support from the International Monetary Fund and the community of donor countries for the economic recovery
program. He also frees political prisoners and reducing controls on freedom of speech and the activities of the
organization.
During his brief he managed to give a solid foundation for Indonesia, at which time the Antitrust ACT of
being born or healthy competition ACT, political parties ACT changes and the most important is the ACT of the
autonomous region. Through the application of autonomous region ACT this is the turmoil of disintegrating
inherited since the new order era successfully muted and finally completed in the era of President Susilo
Bambang Yudhoyono, in the absence of regional autonomy ACT certainly Indonesia will suffer the same fate as
the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia.
The appointment of B.J. Habibie as President raises a wide range of controversies for the people of
Indonesia. The party pros consider the appointment of Habibie is already unconstitutional. It complies with the
provisions of article 8 of the Constitution states that “when the President died, stopped, or is unable to perform
its obligations in his term, he was replaced by Vice President until the time runs out“. While the counter parties
consider that the appointment of B.J. Habibie is considered unconstitutional. This is contrary to the provisions of
article 9 of the Constitution states that “before assuming the post of President then the President would have to
say the oath or pledge in front of the ASSEMBLY or of the PARLIAMENT“.

Almost 97 percent Indonesia people have television. From television we get many
benefits. However, if observer by far, television also brings negative effects. Therefore, the
existence of television programs leads to controversy.
The obvious benefit of heaving television is togetherness. TV gives family chances to get
together watching the programs. TV also can accompany a lonely person spending his time.
By watching TV we can get much information. What happen in the world wide can be
seen through TV. If someone wants to have excitement and amusement, there are music,
movies, games, and comedy in TV programs. He just merely sits and watches TV, then he
gets amusements.
On the other hand, some people have different point of view having TV. They think that
there many negative effects brought by TV. TV often shows violence and TV can make
someone addicted. Crime news often inspires someone to do crimes even worse.
Based on those controversies, it can be concluded that having TV brings advantages and
disadvantages. Therefore, we have to be selective in choosing the programs. For parents, it is
better for them to accompany their children when watching TV.

Cigarette smokers are said to have chance of getting various fatal diseases. But I think that
other people’s tobacco smoke seems to increase the chances of non-smokers getting a wide range
of cancers.
First , although passive smokers inhale less tobacco smoke, the researchers point out that the
smoke they breathe in is richer in many toxic chemicals. There is an example, three times as much
as benzo-apyrene, six times as much loluene and more than 50 times as much dimenthyl
nitrosamine. Of course these substances will harm our body in the long run.
Second , the recent research reported that the risk of getting cancers not normally associated
with smoking also rose among passive smokers. The risk of leukaemia rose 6 – 8 times and the
risk of cervical cancer increased 3 – 4 times.
Third , past studies have found that by product of cigarette smoke such as coinine and
thiocynate, turn up in the blood, urine and saliva of non –smoking adults, children and fetuses that
have been exposed to smokers. These substances are the main causes of various cancers.
In short , the effects of exposure to the cigarette smoking of others are greater than has been
previously suspected. That is why passive smokers have more chances of contracting cancer than
people with no such expose.

Children’s Books
Title: The Adventures of the Thundering Whales and the Dreaded Weaved Catcher
Quick. Raise your hand if you knew that a dolphin was a whale. Not a lot of hands up, are
there? Not even mine. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I learned while reading The
adventure of the Thundering Whales. I remember wishing I had a child to read the book to. Then I
realized what I really wanted was a movie version of the book, with all its characters potrayed in
glorious color, like a “Finding Nemo”, but with so much more to say.
Most of the time I find Children’s books that anthropomorphize their animal characters lose
their ability to teach. An animal (or mammal, or fish, or bird, etc) can not take on human attributes
without losing some of their own. But the author, Stephen Vadakin, has spent enough time studying
marine life to allow his characters to keep their real life tendencies and reactions as true as possible.
For instance, did you know that sperm whale and squid were enemies?
Vadakin not only tells a great tale, with danger and excitement and fully fleshed out
characters, he includes a vocabulary lesson at the end of each chapter so that everyone involved
knows what plankton, krill, fluke and bioluminescense are.
The lessons of friendship, helping and putting aside ones differences for the greater good are
all demonstrated in the tale. The one thing that I found awkward was the use of third person, present
tense throughout the story. It took a while to get used to hearing a children’s story in present tense. I
also would have enjoyed many more graphics. I suppose this is why I’d like to see this made into a
movie. The different characters, while mostly in the whale family, are so distict that only animation
could do it justice.

GLOBALIZATION
Globalization is a social change formed by the increase of interrelation among society and its
elements and happens because of acculturation and technology development
Globalization gives new nuance and wide impact to the immigrants in different culture. World
becomes more various in aspect of ethnics, race and skin colour. Nowadays social growth brings about the
cultural changes which have pluralistic and cultural characters.
Globalization has positive effect if we can adapt better, by improving the self quality and selective
attitude to the foreign cultural adoption.
The positive of globalization can be seen in the change of the development system. In this case,
national development has given wide opportunity for Indonesian society to get proper education.
In the change of life view, globalization expands the concept of the balance between material and
immaterial development.
Nevertheless, globalization results in some negative effects as well. The society experiences
cultural shock because they are not ready to accept the foreign culture immediately. Globalization makes
the value in social life not ready to anticipate the changes happened in the community. It may bring about
cultural value destruction having been adopted by the local society.
Good or bad, the changes that caused by the globalization must be faced with selective attitude to
receive the new culture and strong self-ability to fight for it.
