II. Program/Plan/Project Profile

Title Project CARE (Contextualized activities to Amplify
aRithmetic Excellence)
Rationale Hinapolon Primary School, situated in the eastern
portion of the Municipality of Alangalang, plays a crucial role
in providing education to the local community. With a
population of around 200 families, the primary source of
income for the residents is farm labor. However, most settlers
in the barangay are farm caretakers or "saop," responsible for
tending to the farms owned by landlords.
As part of the Alangalang I District, Hinapolon Primary
School operates as a pure multigrade institution. Starting
from the school year 2022-2023, it began offering complete
elementary education to cater to the needs of the students in
the area.
Over the years, the school has witnessed a notable
increase in enrollment from 54 to 71 learners, thanks to the
addition of grade levels. Moreover, it has successfully
maintained a 0% dropout rate for the past five years,
highlighting its commitment to ensuring continuous
education for all students.
However, recent results from the numeracy test
conducted in April 2023 revealed that out of the 71 learners,
six (6) are considered non-numerates. Among them, two (2)
are in Grade 1, two (2) in Grade 2, one (1) in Grade 3, and
one (1) in Grade 4. It was identified that these learners
struggled with the concepts due to the implementation of a
one-size-fits-all teaching strategy.
The one-size-fits-all strategy employs the same
instruction and materials for all learners, disregarding their
individual learning needs, styles, and abilities. According to
Kolb, individuals have different learning preferences and
paces, with some learners advancing faster than others.
Therefore, it is crucial to utilize varied teaching strategies
that cater to the diverse learning needs of students.
To address this issue, Hinapolon Primary School aims
to improve the numeracy levels of the identified non-
numerate learners through the implementation of Project
CARE. This project will introduce programmed instruction in
numeracy skills specifically designed for these learners.
Programmed instruction is a self-learning method that
allows students to progress at their own pace, mastering the
subject matter in small, manageable steps, as suggested by
Skinner. By adopting this approach, learners will have the
opportunity to receive individualized instruction that aligns
with their specific needs, maximizing their learning potential.
Project CARE will be conducted daily after class hours
from May 22 to June 17, 2023. Teachers will voluntarily
extend 30 minutes of their time to facilitate the immersion
project. Prior to its commencement, the parents of the
identified non-numerate learners will be duly informed and
involved in the process. Additionally, the school head will
monitor the project's progress twice a week to assess its
effectiveness.
At the end of Project CARE, an awarding ceremony will
be held to acknowledge and celebrate the progress made by
the learners. This recognition will motivate the students and
serve as a testament to the effectiveness of the individualized
approach in enhancing numeracy skills.
In conclusion, implementing Project CARE at
Hinapolon Primary School is necessary to address the
numeracy challenges identified non-numerate learners face.
By utilizing programmed instruction, tailored to meet the
individual needs of learners, the school aims to empower
them with the necessary numeracy skills. Through this
initiative, Hinapolon Primary School demonstrates its
commitment to inclusive education and the holistic
development of learners.
Program/Plan/Project Project CARE (Contextualized Activities to Amplify Arithmetic
Description Excellence) is a targeted intervention program conceptualized
to address the non-numerate skills of six identified learners
at Hinapolon Primary School. The project's primary objectives
are to eliminate the non-numerate skills of the identified
learners, develop a target work plan, prepare instructional
worksheets and activity sheets, conduct programmed
instruction, and evaluate the learners' numeracy
performance after the project. The intervention will take place
every afternoon for a duration of thirty minutes over a two-
week period.
The project will begin by identifying six learners who
demonstrate non-numerate skills through inputs from
teachers, observations, and assessments. A comprehensive
work plan will be developed to guide the instructional
process, outlining the specific skills and concepts to be
covered during the intervention period. In addition,
instructional worksheets and activity sheets will be prepared,
tailored to address the specific learning needs of the
identified learners.
During the afternoon sessions, programmed instruction
techniques will be implemented to deliver targeted lessons
and activities. These structured and sequential lessons will
be designed to develop the learners' numeracy skills and will
incorporate various methods such as hands-on activities,
visual aids, and interactive exercises.
At the conclusion of the two-week project, an evaluation will
be conducted to measure the learners' numeracy
performance. This assessment will gauge their progress and
serve as a measure of the effectiveness of the intervention in
addressing their non-numerate skills.
The expected outcomes of Project CARE include improved
numeracy skills among the identified learners, increased
confidence in their arithmetic abilities, enhanced
foundational knowledge in arithmetic, and valuable insights
into the effectiveness of the intervention through the
evaluation process.
Project CARE is designed to provide targeted support to non-
numerate learners, empowering them with the necessary
arithmetic skills for future academic success. By
implementing a comprehensive work plan, tailored
instructional materials, and focused instruction, this project
aims to amplify the arithmetic excellence of the identified
learners at Hinapolon Primary School.
