What is an equation?
• Equality between two expressions that have
one or more variables. Equality or parallelism
between two or more things.
The degree of an equation
• The degree of an equation is given by the largest
exponent of the unknown.
2x+11=x-3 Simple equation
3x2+8= 2x-3 A second grade equation.
Example: 2x+11=x-3 solution= -14
• If we have the obtained value of x in the equation
we have:
2(-14)+11=(-14)-3
-28+11=(-14)-3 Solving an equation is determining
the value or values of the unknowns
-17=-17 that transform the equation into an
identity.
EQUIVALENCE OF EQUATIONS
• Two equations are equivalent when they share
a solution or solutions, have the same degree
and the same number of unknowns.
X+3=5< >x+7=9
4x=12< >2x=6

Observe how you can have

x+7=12
an equivalent reaction for:

Any number is added to

both sides of the equality in x+7+3=12+3
this case they add up to 3
Then the X+7=12
equation turns 5+7=12
out: 12=12
[It is equivalent]
X+10=15
5+10=15
15=15

• The value x in the equations is 5

First grade system solutions
• When it comes to systems of two first degree
equations with two unknowns, various simple
graphical and algebraic resolution methods are
applied; If the number of equations is higher, it
is preferable to resort to the method of
matrices and determinants.
• X+3=2x+2
• X+2=7
• 3x/3+x/7=7
Solution system of equations
• It consists of solving the unknown of one of the
equations and substituting the value found in
the other equation; this method produces a
single equation.

Example: We clear:
X+Y=4 x+y=4
X+2y=6 x=4-y
We clear Y: We solve x:
X+2y=6
We remove parentheses We solve for the
X=4-y value of Y
(4-y)+2y=6
4-y+2y=6 =4-(2)
-y+2y=6-4 The four for subtraction =4-2 It is subtracted

1y=2 X=2
Y=2
reduction method
• It consists of multiplying one or both equations
by some number, so that we put a system in the
coefficients where the coefficients (x) and (y)
are equal.
Example:
X+y=12 We replace
X=3y->3y-x=0
We substitute so that it
X+y=12
remains
-x+3y=0
0+4y=12
4y=12 The 4 passes by
Y=12/4 dividing
Y=3 ----> X=3
Equalization method
• It consists of solving the same unknown from
the given equations and subsequently making
the equation of both unknowns.
Example:
5=0-X We put y =-3x+1 on the
5=-3X+1 left side and o-x on the
right side.
We replace 0-X -3x+x=1-0
We have left 0-X=-3X+1 -4x=-1 ---->we substitute
X=-1/4
