TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION PROJECT GRANT PROPOSAL

Name of Applicant: Lauren Nesbitt

District/School: Fulton County Schools (Mountain Park Elementary)

Date: 11/8/22

Total Cost of Project: $75,000

Title of Project: Apple iPad Implementation in Primary Classrooms

To what organization will you submit this grant application in the future?:

I. Why is this project important (In 2-3 paragraphs, describe the need for the project and its
relevance to the shared vision for instructional technology)?
- Technology can be used as a resource to enhance students learning inside and outside of
the classroom. The founding of my Apple iPad Implementation in Primary classrooms
will allow for educators to increase the shared vision for instructional technology but also
increase other areas of learning. Educators will be able to design a vision with the district
to align their hopes of bridging the gaps of instruction and enhancing this instruction with
technology throughout the classroom.
- The need for the implementation of iPads for the primary classrooms will enhance
learning by students being able to easily access content compared to currently where
students are using a mixture of electronical devices. Students in kindergarten and first
grade are using iPads and second graders are using dell computers. Classroom devices in
kindergarten and first grade classes are not 1-1. Students in second grade classes are
having difficulties with the processing system of the devices-by-devices constantly
glitching and having a difficult time loading properly. The switch to primary grades
moving to primarily Apple products would enhance students learning by students
becoming familiar during their first year of school.

II. What would you like to accomplish (In 1-2 paragraphs, describe the overall project goals
and then list the instructional objectives/project outcomes.)?

- I would like to provide students with more opportunities to engage with technology
throughout the school day. Students primarily use technology for iReady diagnostics
testing, MAP testing, and iReady daily lessons through the iReady program. (Robinson,
2022) states, “Many elementary school activities engage children in hands- on, dynamic
activities that do not require the use of technology, limiting how much time students

spend in front of a screen. However, there are ways that technology can develop and
sustain unique learning opportunities in schools.” I want to increase the level of
engagement in classroom from including hands-on learning but also adding a technology
component throughout the day. (Robinson, 2022) states, “When using technology in the
elementary classroom, be judicious and intentional. Before implementing it, consider
your goals for using it and whether it provides a functional improvement to a learning
task.” I think the importance of testing out the technology before students using the
technology is vital to students’ success while learning how to use new software. My
overall goal for this project is for second grade students to be able to retell a folktale
through an Adobe Spark Post. Students would create an Adobe Express Post about a
folktale that they have read about in class. Students will be able to engage in technology
and be able to determine the main idea of a folktale.
- Instructional Objectives:

- ELAGSE2RL2: Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures,
and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
- ELAGSE2RL1: Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and
how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
- ELAGSE2RL3: Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and
challenges.

III. In what ways is this project an example of exemplary technology integration (In 2-3
paragraphs discuss your project regarding one or more of the following: LoTi, SAMR,
TPACK, TIM, etc.)?
- My Apple iPad implementation in Primary Classrooms Project is an example of
exemplary technology integration by providing students with opportunity to engage in
technology and reading standards. Students can meet reading standards and increase their
learning goal of using technology while learning. LoTi indicators that students will
experience throughout this project are authentic/ meaningful, challenging, standards-
based, multi-disciplinary, explorer, and producers. Students will create
meaningful/authentic experiences throughout the Apple iPad implementation in Primary
Classrooms by learning about folktales and then connecting their learning to their Adobe
Spark (Express) creation.
- Students can become explorers of their learners by using technology to retell a variety of
folktales. Technology can be used as a tool for learning throughout this project to
enhance students’ skills with technology. This project is standards based and follows the
Georgia Standards of Excellence. Students are following the following standards:
ELAGSERL1, ELAGSERL2, and ELAGSERL3. This project will be a tad bit
challenging for primary students because it will test their combability with using an iPad.
Students will become familiar with the variety of tools that can be used on their iPad to
enhance their project.

IV. How will you complete the work? (Describe how the project will be completed.)

-
A. Describe how the instructional objectives/project outcomes will be met (In 2-3 paragraphs,
describe what students will do to demonstrate mastery of the objectives/outcomes.).
- Instructional objectives and project outcomes will be met through the process of creating
their Adobe Express Folktales Retelling Project. Students will gather an understanding of
folktales throughout the curriculum to meet the needs of the standards. Students will also
then be able to identify a variety of folktales. Students will plan the information that they
will be sharing on their Adobe Spark Folktales Retelling Project. Students will use a
planning guide to guide their thinking process for their Adobe Express Folktales
Retelling Project.
- The planning guide will allow for students to be able to easily meet the standards
necessary to be successful at retelling folktales and using Adobe Spark. Students will
watch a video learning about the different features of Adobe Express. This video will
primarily focus on creating an Adobe Express web page post. I have listed the video link
below: Adobe Express Web Page Tutorial. Students will be able to demonstrate mastery
by the end of the project by meeting standards expectations and meeting LoTi indicators
throughout the project. Students will be able to shine with the Adobe Express platform
through technology integration with Apple’s iPads.

B. Describe the time involved (Describe the project length including amount of time each
day/week; include a timeline for planning and implementation).
- The project will take place over a month period. Students will have two weeks to first
learn about folktales and begin planning for their folktales project through the
implementation of the iPad implementation in primary classrooms. Students will have a
planning template for students will use. Students will have one week to effectively plan

for their folktales retelling through Adobe Express. Educators will share with their
students during the third week of planning, the Adobe Express Web Page Tutorial.

C. Describe the people involved (To show impact, describe the grade level/subject & # of
students, teachers and/or staff, other stakeholders).
- Students: There is an average of 120 students in kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade.
Each class is a set of an average of 19-23 students.
- Educators: Theirs is an average of six to seven general education educators on each grade
level team. There is one co-taught classroom in every grade level classroom. The co-
taught classroom consists of a special education educator and general education educator.
- Administration: There is one principal, two assistant principals and one curriculum
support teacher.

D. Describe any professional development that you or others will complete prior to
implementing the grant. (This is optional, but will help reviewers know that you are well
prepared to carry out the grant implementation.)

- Educators will participate in Apple Teacher. Apple Teacher is Apple’s, “a free

professional learning program designed to support and celebrate educators using Apple
products for teaching and learning. Your self-paced journey starts by learning
foundational skills on iPad and Mac and continues as you integrate Apple technology
into your everyday lessons. With three recognitions to explore, there’s endless
inspiration and opportunity to be rewarded for doing your very best teaching —
teaching that gives students more connected, creative, collaborative, and personal
learning experiences.”

E. Describe the materials needed for the project (Provide links to relevant websites; include a
written description of how the technology/ies will benefit students).

V. How will you assess accomplishments and objectives/project outcomes (In 2-3 paragraphs,
describe the timeline for assessing, the program evaluation procedure, and how success of
the grant project will be determined.)?

- I will assess the accomplishments and objectives/project outcomes based on the Apple
iPad Implementation in Primary Classroom results. I will reflect on the experiences of
educators and students to determine the specific outcomes. I will identify with educators
about the LoTi levels that they believed that students met throughout the project and the
completion of the project. Students will be able to reflect on the project. Students will be
given a survey about the project. I believe that the student survey will be a great indicator
of accomplishments of the project and possibly information that could change in the
future to better meet the needs of the facilitator and students. The success of the grant
will be determined by administration. Administration was given a copy of the grant
proposal and the variety of areas that educators and students were trying to meet
throughout the presentation. Administration will be able to give an unbiased opinion
based on the results of the Adobe Express Folktales Retelling presentations.
- Adobe Express Survey Questions:
1. What did you like about the Adobe Express Folktales project?
2. What did you dislike about the project?
3. What is one thing that you would change about the project?
4. How did this project allow for you to learn more about technology?

V. How will the students be impacted by the project (In 1-2 paragraphs, describe how the
impact on students will be assessed and reported to students, parents, teachers, and others.)?
- Students will become impacted by the project by enhancing their skills with technology.
Students will become well informed about a variety of types of folktales. Students will be
able to share about folktales and be able to express their opinions about Folktales using
the Adobe Express Web Page platform. The impact on students will be assess through an
Adobe Express Survey. Students will answer the survey and educators will gather their
opinion about the project. This will allow for students to develop a deeper understanding
of technology.
